  1. NAA Stillwater - Widmead 1900 - 0700 Warm, overcast (alas) and breezy night. 4 Carp; 8lb 9oz, 7lb 8oz, 7lb 3oz, 6lb 7oz. Slow night - all fish at dusk or dawn - with 5 bite-less hours in between. Couldn't even enjoy the Persieds due to the cloud cover.
  2. Hi, I'm new on here, so this is first post. Last night we were fishing the Trent at gunthorpe for Barbel. No barbel showing but caught this and a few chubb and Roach. not sure if If I'm allowed to post photos , but unsure of the species, looks like may be Chubb even considered Common carp but the shape of the mouth seems to resemble neither. Hey ho will just have to put it down as unsure. oops was going to attach picture but don't think I can do this Cheers Trev
  3. NAA Stillwater - Widmead 1830 - 0545 Cool, clear and calm. AT down to 10ºC at dawn. 5 Carp: 9lb 5oz, 8lb 7oz, 8lb 0oz, 7lb 11oz, 6lb 4oz. 1 Perch (small). Slow, slow night which got off to a very fast start! Had one of the 8's on the bank within a couple of minutes of starting - hadn't even got my second rod out of the quiver when the alarm went off. Pity then, that my next bite was shortly after midnight! In truth I was really after trying to get a bream or even a tench from here - though in the end I had to make do with the mini flurry of activity between 0000 and 0200 culminating in the 9lber. No bites after 2 o'clock prompted an early pack-up and a few hours kip before a late brekkie at home...

  6. I was wondering if anyone fishes for carp at Ardleigh reservoir, Wick lane lake? Ive been a few times but only caught bream, does anyone have any tips for catching the carp? What the best bait is, best swim etc... Any advice is appreciated
  7. NAA Lake - Widmead 1930 - 0645 Mild night despite clearing skies - very pleasant under the stars (and some late Perseids). No morning dew either. 7 Carp - all between 4lb 14oz & 9lb 7oz. 1 Tench; 4lb 14oz. 2 roach and a rudd. Steady session with a 5lb+ carp 1st cast and a fish every hour or so thereafter until it got light when bites dried up completely. Had intended to fish a different lake - but it was rather busy (school holidays - sigh!) so dropped into a swim that I'd walked past on my way to the swim I'd wanted to fish, which was seething with bubbles. 4 fish on the feeder (2 on pellet, 2 on boilies), and 4 fish on the float in the margins (3 on chopped prawn - including the tinca, the other on maggot).
  8. Hi guys I am fishing a club match on waterfall lake (lake5) at frant lakes but I've never fished at frant lakes before so I was wondering if anyone had fished waterfall before had any advice on tactics, baits etc. any advice will be helpful Cheers
  9. Hi, can anyone tell me if Steadfast is a good course fishing rod brand? or if it is not what should i be looking for as a novice with aspirations!? Many thanks. Looking at using rods for carp, tench, etc.
  10. After failing to write anything for over a year...... I think this may have been the first time I have fished for coarse fish in April as I usually wait until May before venturing onto the bankside. However, recent surgery to treat kidney cancer and the loss of my main work contract meant that I currently have a bit of time available. In addition, fishing is supposed to be a fine method of recuperation. So, after a leisurely start to the day, read instead, stuck in traffic on the M4 and A4, I was fishing by 9:45 in one of my favourite swims in very pleasant angling conditions. The plan was to float fish the margins for a couple of hours and then give a try to pellet waggler fishing, a method that caught me a few fish on a couple of short sessions last summer. However this time I had a new rod, bought specifically for the purpose, well, almost, it should also be good for a bit of small stream dace and grayling fishing in the winter. So, for a couple of hours I stared at a float, in the margins, which only moved when I recast it. The time gets to 11:00, mug of coffee and a late breakfast sandwich while I watch the lake for signs of movement. A few carp appear to be mooching around sub-surface, just what I wanted to see, although without sunglasses it was hard to estimate sizes. So, pellet waggler fishing, the required setup, rod, bait, float, etc are pictured below, just as it was by the lake on Thursday morning. Those of you who have tried this method will immediately spot where my cunning plan falls apart…..no sunglasses, and no catapult. Without the former I wasn’t going to be able to easily spot fish, and without the latter, my loosefed 6mm pellets weren’t going very far. Ho hum…..instead of hauling out a load of carp on this method, I sat and watched my stationary float in the margins for another hour before the call of a cold pint of beer on the way home became too great. There’s always next time, and I won’t forget the catapult and sunglasses again!!
  11. Does anyone have any info on this club in kent?
  12. Hi Can anybody recommend any carp rods for beginner in a cheap price range thanks
  13. I have been fishing a few years but never been to a commercial fishery, it may have been my imagination but my float fishing in challenging windy conditions seemed to amuse the lads sitting behind their alarms waiting for the the carp to bite. The funny thing is I had a great day for Rudd and Perch, whilst the alarms stayed mostly silent! I was just wondering if this is typical fishery behaviour? or am I just paranoid? after all we are there for the same reason..
  14. What are people's opinion on different types of bait? Which do you find more effective and why? I'm interested to see what people choose.
  15. Kennet & Avon Canal - Enborne 0700 - 0830 Mild and overcast. 4 Perch: 2 'pounders' though not by a lot. 1 Chub 1lb 10z. 1 Carp 5lb 3oz. Detour en route to Speen to check out a couple of 'banker' stripey swims from last winter. First cast perfection as the lob plopped an inch from a semi-submerged branch was met with the float shooting under before it had time to cock and a powerful fish charged up the cut. I knew it wasn't a perch - and whilst I had hoped it would be a nice tench my suspicions were confirmed when I eventually got it under control - a ruddy carp - my first ever from here in over 30 years of fishing it. Some target fish followed but nothing over 1lb 6oz before a slightly more welcome chub put in an appearance....
  16. Hi all, I apologise if there has been a lot of these posts before but I'm fairly knew to the forum. I'm looking for some bargains on eBay. Anyone recommend any good deals? Not looking for anything in particular, but may look to stock up on some leads and bite indicators if you could recommend some. Who's got a bargain for me? Anything carp related. Thanks.
  17. Newbury AA Stillwater - Thatcham. 2000 - 0000 Warm with a lovely warm breeze to keep the mossies off - still 19ºC when I packed up at midnight. 1 Carp 5lb 8oz. Same plan, different lake to the evening before. Try for a crucian and hope that the carp would come into the margins at dark. Neither part of which worked! Very unusual for here not to get carp slurping at your freebies in the margins - but there was not a hint of one the entire time I was there. Only bite on meat - a classic lift which set hopes high for a milli-second but resulted in the common....
  18. NAA Stillwater - Thatcham 1930 - 2330 Warm and sultry - 26 ->18c. Shirtsleeves and shorts - until the mossies turned up in force! 2 Carp; 10lb 9oz, 3lb 15oz. 10 Roach. Another cunning plan bites the dust. Paul and I had agreed to meet up for an after work session hoping for crucians, with a carp or 2 off the top as Plan B. Well I managed 'A' carp on floating crust ( the bigger one) - but the usual tactic of letting the floating bait drift into the margins was scuppered by rats - who would swim out to snaffle the freebies before the carp got a look in! Other carp took the speck of meat meant for a crucian and consequently took an age to land on lightish gear. Paul left early - disgruntled with the rats and crayfish which were also in his swim!
  19. NAA Stillwater - Widmead 0430 - 1030 Overcast clearing to bright sunshine - quite breezy. 1 Carp 5lb 15oz, 1roach, 1perch, dozen+ rudd. Fruitless morning after crucians. At least I wasn't plagued by nuisance carp - the only one I caught was deliberate - off the top on bread. Rudd were a bit of a menace - especially as they gave very crucian-like bites at times.....!
  20. NAA Stillwater - Thatcham 0430 - 1030 Sultry! 4 Carp (3½ - 4½lb), 12 Roach, 2 Perch. Merest hint of a rumour that crucians had been coming out of this small club pond had me setting up at dawn, though more in hope than expectation. A pity, as just a few seasons ago it was a prolific crucian water. Today there was not a sign of one so had to make do with the occasional muscular common putting in an appearance to put a bend in the rod and lead me a merry dance on a light bottom!
  21. The perfect anglers jacket from Jack Pyke of England These are available in both Hunters Green or English Oak and are top quality items.
  22. Checkout this new site and software to get better catch results, plus keeping your full fishing history with photos.
  23. NAA Stillwater - Widmead 0600 - 1000 Mainly overcast with some sun breaking through and the odd bit of light drizzle. 15/16ºC 2 Carp; 9lb 2oz, 6lb 6oz, 1 rudd, 2 perch. Another blank for my target species (crucians and or tench). Smaller carp on crucian tackle - so took an age to land. Bigger one off the top on bread.
  24. NAA Stillwater - Widmead 1330 - 0600 Warm and Sultry - fresher in the morning! 8 Carp; Best 8lb 10oz - almost all the others were circa 6lb. 8 Roach, 4 Rudd and a Perch. Very slow night - especially as neither Paul or I caught anything that we were actually fishing for - tench or bream. Nearly all my fish fell to float fished maggot right under my rod tip - just 2 carp on the method rod. Paul had a solitary blank saving common of around 7lb after 14 hours of fishing! Paul got bored and started taking pictures of the insect life - will post some up if they're any good!!!
