My only qualm about it is that Tata of India just bought them from Ford, presumably after the 'Due diligence' excercise and the first thing they do is run to what is to them a foreign government asking for a bail out.

Now it may be cynical, but do you think that it was always on the cards that they bought it from Ford as a fire sale and were taking a punt on a foreign government loan to avoid having to pay the full price for an investment?

I would go with that 100%, purchased on the cheap knowing full well they would be applying for government funding under the threat of closing down the UK manufacturing.

should the government put taxes into any private company ,if they cant exist they should either get proper management or flounder .the railways get a hefty hand out but they knew full well what they were buying when the railways were denationalised just bad management ,a shop keeper wont get any hand outs but huge companies who should have good management get theirs

the gov will say its protecting jobs but i bet its cheaper just to hand out the dole to the unfortunate rather than buy caviare for the managers

They have put money into the banks, they have cut bank interest rates and for what? Banks have cut interest on investments and have not passed on the reduction in interest rates to people with loans.

This seems to be a much more worthwhile cause:

:)

Mr Flynt and Mr Francis are standing by their request however - and the Government's response remains to be seen.

If the government are happy to take their taxes when the going's good, then their request should be just as valid as anyone else's.

It seems they must be having a problem making ends meet... a bit of a major problem in the porn industry I'd have thought!

small businesses...........but you don't see the government offering them any help!!

One of Brown's favourite catch phrases is "help for small businesses"

Back in the summer when there was a little pressure on Brown to go, he did a 'mea culpa' interview on tv one Sunday morning... Every time he admitted he'd got it wrong he stumbled over his words!

When he had to say something which obfuscated the issue, he stumbled over his words.

There was more stumbling than cogent speech, which sort of told me all I needed to know.

As a self-employed individual, this Government is doing nothing to help me whatsoever. I'm at a stage where I'm seriously considering whether it would be financially more viable to do no work whatsoever, and let them worry about my bills.
