smokers? wanna give up?

well i'm now on my last week of pills ,not sure why i gave up it certainly wasnt for my sake .

perhaps the mrs moaning about clouds of smoke going her way did it? or the hum of two bio filters at night

anyway having failed more than once on patches and zyban ending up with patches and zyban (its a hell of a kick smoking as well).

i heard about champix and approached the doc who got an appointment with the nurse (no not ours a stern one) she got me to fill a form in and got me to puff in a dooda that measures carbon monoxide in the breath ,37 (something or others) but a non smokers should be 2 ish ,my flippant blimey thats good value didnt cut the ice (i think she doesnt like men) she tried to get me to join a NHS giving up smoking group which i wouldnt join so all i had to do was report to her and puff in her dooda once a week.after a week it was two and all have since.

 

i was surprised on patches and zyban i went through a terrible withdrawel ,hunting for butts ,wasting hours tidying the shed incase i found a butt hell i'l admit picking up butts in the gutter and smoking them and nasty tantrams for no reason (in all cases my mrs eventually pleaded me to start smoking again)

with champix nothing ,i can empty visitors ashtrays without burning my nose lighting whats left ,hell i can even not roll a fag when my sons baccy pouch is inches away i havnt even killed anyone yet

 

i can honestly tell the nurse i havnt smoked (she now and then gets me to puff in her dooda to check) better is i dont really want to

 

side effects .....wind now my mrs complains of other "smoke" coming her way so i bought her a few air fresheners which are probably more harmful.

i only miss fags in my dreams and often wake up searching for my baccy pouch and occasionally after i have done something that "deserves" a fag ,it only lasts a second then alls well.

luckily i didnt have the vacant hand syndrome.

 

hopefully after this last weeks pills are used up (were stretching the last weeks dose over two weeks one week left) i will be a non smoker but without the better than thou attitude some get.

 

as for myself i feel no difference physically between now and the 2nd jan when i started but ofcourse probably better off pocket wise certainly if i had bought my baccy from a shop!

 

so if you want to try and give up try champix it may not work for you but worth a try

 

famous last words? we'l see this time next week

You keep on keeping on Chesters and you will never go back. I was on forty a day and had to stop for a medical reason for one week. That was years ago and i never had another one. Even now sometimes i smell a fag being smoked and i say to meself i could fancy one, but i never will, thank goodness. Not one of those horrible x smokers either, if someone wanted to have a fag in our house, i would find them an ashtray, or a saucer, what ever is to hand. Good luck with it. Extra strong mints i became addicted to.

I couldn't use them chesters, they would react with other medication I'm taking.

I wish I could have because the people I've known that have done, have all gone on to quit completely.

 

Remember, the stopping is easy, the not starting again is the hard bit.

Excellent news chesters, I didnt know you was givin up!

 

I quit 60 a day about 6 years ago now cold turkey with the Allen Carr book.......still miss one now and again but sure don't miss actually being a smoker and all that goes with it.

i stopped my other meds ,my prostrates probably as big as a baboons head but it also gives me a chance for a unadulterated PSA test for the good it is

Chesters, the NHS is a waste of space. Brenda decided that as I no longer smoked, nor would she (despite doctors telling her to carry on!) She spoke to the NHS who arranged for a district nurse to come and see her as she couldn't go to them.

First pack of plasters arrived the next day. the second pack didn't arrive until she phoned the day after she should have got them (another 2 days wait!), the third pack did not arrive until she phoned and then they were 10 days late. After that they didn't bother!! No phone calls or any kind of communication, or support, at all!!

 

Why should she bother!!
