Escaped maggots

How essential is it to recapture the little fellas if they escape, like when I kick over the maggot box? How likely are they to turn into bluebottles?

Oh dear, TFT. Happened to me once in my kitchen. Very bad news a few weeks later. Amazing how a "handful" can turn into about ten million, and for a while after hatching, they don't fly around. I came home to my whole flat wallpapered with the little sods. Every available surface covered with 'em.

 

The (ex)girlfriend was not pleased.

in a house an inconvenience ,in a car deadly ,turn on your fan and get blasted with irate bluebottles ,you could knock yourself out with your mobile phone whilst wafting them away

I "lost" nearly a pint of pikies many years ago, I had come in at 2am and left my box at the end of the hall. By the time I woke up the tub was all but empty. 2 weeks later the downstairs neighbour came to the door asking if I had a problem with flies.. No was my reply.. seemingly his house was full of little green flies
