Steve Burke:

Thanks, Andrew, that also looks interesting.  I suspect which one is better will depend on the model of camera.

Why can't the manufacturer's fit a screw thread to amateur cameras like they used to?  It's hardly going to cost is it?

I couldn't agreed more with you Steve

Andrew, that's the latest version of the A80 (and the A95) and looks really excellent. BTW, for anyone on a limited budget the A95 can be found from £170. Click on either of the price comparison sites I mentioned earlier.

I have got the powershot a520 and it does do the job. Has also got a screw thread on the bottom which will help. Cant advise on how good it is for fish pictures but will be taking it with me on my next trip.

Also, if anyone is looking for decent memory i can highly recommend this site.

The last 3 camera's i have bought have all been total cack for both fishing and taking pictures of the reptiles, esp albino's.

I think this is going to be a great resource.

Food for thought though, how come a £50 mobile phone can take better pics than some £200 camera's, robbery :P

Cheers

Canon G5 (now superseded by the G6). Superb results. Rechargeable battery that lasts for ages. Flip-around viewing screen combined with infrared remote "zapper" makes it ideal for self-take shots when fishing alone.

It's a tad heavy; somewhat expensive, too (about £400); otherwise I can't fault it.
