A good all round travel rod

I'm looking for a good all round travel rod.

Something that packs up to around two foot and comes with a durable case.

Will mainly be used for float fishing but also ledgering.

In fact, it would be useful if it was a real all rounder and could handle some lures too.

It will mainly be used on rivers but if I'm by the coast I might spin the odd lure or popper in search of a sea bass or alternatively dangle the odd limpet in front of a hungry wrasse.

On rivers I'll be long trotting but an Avon style rod would allow me to quiver tip too.

What's the best bet on the market at the moment?

He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days without taking a fish. (Hemingway - The old man and the sea)

look on ebay item number 200336916255. There seems to be plenty of them on there.

I have one of these my brother bought me it for Xmas, it certainly seems good quality, well made and fit for the job, but I've not actually gotten around to field testing it yet . . . .

You should definatly check out the Exage. Its pretty rubbish as a spinning rods but as an all rounder, it's hard to beat.

My vote goes to the JW Avon travel I have one and they are an excellent allrounder

minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which

holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd

by the clean end"

I am with Alan Roe on this one the JW Avon travel is a superb piece of kit and ticks all of the boxes tiddler wants though when dangling a limpet for Wrasse do it under a float not a 125g lead :)
