Big Toys II (Yup, more Steam Stuff)

After catching a brace or two on the Bassing trip this Saturday (6th and 7th) I'm off up to Cirencester to a Steam Rally with a difference - planes! (Well not Steam powered but....?)

'The Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza' at Kemble airfield just south of Cirencester.

Lots of old transport stuff plus a 'fly in' of old aircraft and even jets. (The 'red bull' Vixen lives there).

Good 'trade' stands but not much fairground and still small enough to be a good day out without sore feet.

We'll have our 'Big Toy' there as well a few smaller ones and two 1/2 size 'miniture' waggons as well. Probably your best chance of a ride in one of these marvelous machines you'l ever get as there's a decent access round round the site - just get chatting to a driver - (look for the dirtiest souls around) they all love to show off their shiny bits .

Tog, i worked on the travelling fairs for 14yrs+ and one of the first jobs i had was a grease monkey.

The bloke i worked for started out with steam powered stuff and its still his first love, i was "volunteered" to go up and grease the cranks of his steam powered gallopers, dirty job but still great fun.

My dream is to do THIS, took D and the kids on the train last month while we were on holiday, i was really proud of D cos she's scared stiff of trains after a door opened on her when she was a kid, if her dad hadn't grabbed her she'd have been dead but she still went along AND she enjoyed it.

Oh BTW i'm 33 and keep getting called old fart cos i love steam power don't care its a hell of a lot more fun than diesel :D

For anyone in east yorkshire or thereabouts, the second weekend in august is the driffield steam rally.... and the always close the road into town on saturday evening so all the steam engines, tractors etc can take a road run into town to the pub then chippy, also on a saturday and sunday they have a 'ladies steering race' the winner of the saturday then races the winner of the sunday for a trophy... great mucky fun :D:D:D

Nah, I'm too 'andsome to be a teech, but by coincidence, the guy under the other greasetop cap IS a teacher, and the cleaner (out of shot) assigned to the loco that day answers to the nickname "Ferret"
