Here is a (live) underwater cam shot set up by the Lake Superior State University in Michigan. It's set up at the base of the Dam on the Saint Mary's river, which flows out of Lake Superior via the ship locks at Sault St. Marie. Most of the fish are Chinook (king) salmon, with an occasional Atlantic and Pink swimming past.

 

After the site loads, you may have to click on "Trigger" to get the cam to come on. When the "prompt for password comes up, just click on cancel.The dam has flood lights at its base that stay on at night for nocturnal viewing.

Species caught in 2015: Ash, Bird Cherry, Black-Headed Gull, Common Hazel, Common Whitebeam, Elder, Field Maple, Gorse, Puma, Sessile Oak, White Willow.

Species caught in 2014: Big Angry Man's Ear, Blackthorn, Common Ash, Common Whitebeam, Downy Birch, European Beech, European Holly, Hawthorn, Hazel, Scots Pine, Wych Elm.
Species caught in 2013: Beech, Elder, Hawthorn, Oak, Right Earlobe, Scots Pine.

Species caught in 2012: Ash, Aspen, Beech, Big Nasty Stinging Nettle, Birch, Copper Beech, Grey Willow, Holly, Hazel, Oak, Wasp Nest (that was a really bad day), White Poplar.
Species caught in 2011: Blackthorn, Crab Apple, Elder, Fir, Hawthorn, Horse Chestnut, Oak, Passing Dog, Rowan, Sycamore, Willow.
Species caught in 2010: Ash, Beech, Birch, Elder, Elm, Gorse, Mullberry, Oak, Poplar, Rowan, Sloe, Willow, Yew.

Probably two more weeks there, Newt. I live about 300 miles south of Sault St. Marie, and won't see any fish in the creek behind my house until about Oct. 1. I think the run has been on for a week or so up there. Runs generally last about 2-3 weeks, although I have seen black, skanky salmon swimming past in late November in past years.

Brrrrr - 300 miles south of Sault St. Marie is WAY too far north for me. Brrrrrr.

 

But thanks for the info. I had no idea how long the main salmon run lasted. Probably lots of bears upstream in the rivers and putting on fat for the winter.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))
