Call centre crisis

Recommended Posts

There has been a huge shift to staffing phones by cheaper labour from overseas.

Now I can understand why large companies do this, ie they save money and I am in no way racist, but its bloody hopeless!!

Standards are dropping and its us, the consumer who ends up paying! In all of my dealings with these overseas call centres ALL of the operators have had to "go and ask a supervisor", ALL have said "sorry" when they dont understand some of the larger English words, which results in myself getting aggravated at having to give English lessons, or re-word sentences akin to talking to a 5 or 6 year old. They dont seem to know of our procedures, protocols or way of life.

This is an awfull situation, that is only going to get worse as time goes on. In the future, before I sign up or undertake any business with any company, bank or insurance Co etc etc I will be asking If when I need to phone up who or where those support people will be, and if its not UK, they can forget it.

Only in theory but not in practice. All companies have to be competitive otherwise they lose business. If one company starts to use significantly cheaper labour, or somehow lowers their running costs, then their competition must follow suit or lose their business share. The recent exodus to use cheaper labour is supplying no extra profits for the companies concerned, its is because of the fact that these companies are compeating in a global market and without the running cost, stifling bureaucracy, and extortionate taxation levels applied in the UK. The alternative is to pay more for your product.

Within the coming years you will see more and more business relocating overseas. A companies job is to make profit. Any manufacturing company now left in the UK is commiting financial suicide and the service sector is now also rapidly shifting out.The only "industries" setting up in the UK are receiving subsidies, buying your own jobs with tax payers money.

Quite a few UK companies, apparently, are now looking for other countries to set up base in as India has become too expensive for their new costings!!!
