Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

AS Previous prob Thermocouple, See here:

http://www.plumbase.co.uk/products_Type.as...e=Thermocouples

most gas burners have a 'generic' one and should be £5 - £10

But first check the flue from the heater is clear and if it is some time since it was last checked or the property is rented get it done professionally.

Only perform the following if you are a competent fixer of stuff (If it blows up then you weren’t competent!)

Warning::::

'The Law' on the fixing of gassy stuff only requires you to be corgi registered if you are doing it for 'hire or reward' (to the public) if you are a competent DIY'r you may do so BUT obviously if you are not as competent as you think you are the consequences are horrific.

How to change thermocouple:

Turn off gas & leccy to heater.

Remove 'service' cover and locate thermocouple by the small hex nut which has a very thin copper pipe running through it (on both the gas valve and the burner unit). Both should be only a little more than finger tight (no gas in this pipe only heat). Remove the end from the burner and then the gas valve, try not to undo the coils as you will want similar on the new one.

You may find the end of the thermocouple has carbon caked on it, a gentle scrub should remove it and may be all that’s needed if the end is intact, if its burnt away replace it.

Take said thermo to decent plumb / heat merchant (see above) and procure replacement. fit as per original. Turn on gas and light pilot as standard, once pilot is established turn on leccy or demand on HW to run as normal.

If you are at all unsure at any point, get someone who knows how to do it!

Tog (fixer of stuff to the gentry)

PS what was the outcome on the washer??

Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.
