I must admit, I have accidentally killed fish in my time. Although its very rare now.

 

It is usually the smaller fish and even more usually the little perch that insist in taking your hook and sh$%*ng it out the other end!!

 

Nowadays i limit myself to the amount of time i will have a fish out of water.

 

I wet my hands before handling, cut the line as far down as posible if its a really awkward deep hooking.

 

I also ALWAYS put fish back in the water, rather than keepnet if ive had it out for a longish time or had to cut the hooklength (and that goes for matches aswell).
