Mitchell 410/300 Servicing

I need my Mitchells servicing, in fact the 410a probably needs a repair as its making some funny noises.

Does anyone on this site offer this service, or know someone that they would recommend. I could buy replacements from e-bay, but they might be worse, and I'm rather attached to these.

do it yourself ,probably needs a spot of grease, schematics widespread

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

These are very easy to repair. Just needs cleaning out and re greasing. I know what you mean they are very good reels. I use a 300 and have caught many good fish. Angling is so complicated and these reels are (were) so nice and reliable.

I'm lucky to go fishing everyday (when the FPO allows me)

Dead easy to do.As Benacre said a good clean out and regrease is normally all thats required.Anything your not sure about ask. Im not sure who/where to contact about getting spares though as last time I got a load they were based in Southhampton but that was back in the 90's.Ive got quite a lot so if you get really stuck ask.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

What a unanimous response in favour of opeining it up and doing it myself. My 410a has a problem where it sometimes - mainly when held vertically - stops going up and down, so I am assuming it's the gears.

Given the level of response I might open it up, and if there is something 'funny' going on I'll photo it and post it here. You can all help me!

Cheers guys!

If I had time tonight I'd do a photo-strip for one as I did a bale arm spring change for Davy R. Unfortunately (for you :D )

my sea fishing trip has been confirmed for tomorrow so I'm busy renewing line and stuff!

If I get a chance this weekend or Monday I'll do one!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

I have lots of bail arm springs in my carpet, if you ever change a bail arm spring when it pings you will never see it again.

Tie a couple feet of white cotton onto the spring with a simple half hitch (and you should be able to pull it off again when finished) and if the spring goes ping when fitting, just look for the cotton.

If you've got a white carpet:

(a) you're barmy

(b ) use black cotton.
