No doubt she's a very committed and talented athlete, but was I the only person to think that she pulled up short in both olympic races when it became clear that she wasn't going to win a medal ?

An almighty case of throwing her rattle out of the pram.

You can't beat a bit of good old fashioned British "kick em while they are down" criticism.

Shame you can't remember the gustsy performances she had put in in previous events [Melbourne for instance] plus all the other times she has been beaten.

How the hell do you know she gave up because she didn't think she was going to win?

I have nothing but admiration for those who have the talent to persevere with such a dedicated lifestyle!

Sure it has it's rewards but at a routine most [not all] of us would find unachievable and downright unbearable.

Well done Paula! A British winner!!

The New York Marathon win was wonderful for her, but relevant to anyone outside her own coterie? I think not. She was paid £270,000 just for turning up (according to The Times last week). Where's the incentive to win? $75000 and a car seems pretty irrelevant under those circumstances.

To follow the logic of Ken and Paul, perhaps she couldn't be bothered to finish out of the medals in Athens because she wasn't being paid? How very cynical.

I didn't see much of the Olympics, but how much mental torture did the girl put herself through before dropping out? As for the dropping out of the 10k race, she should never have put herself in for it in the first place.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

top lass, those who mock should try and run just 1 mile at her pace, then lets see who gives up easily.

i have nothing but respect for her, and i cant believe all the **** she got. All her amazing acheivemtents to date, all the years and years of hard work, the literally hundreds of thousands of miles she has run and all that people can say is that shes a quitter.

you should be ashamed

A bird in the bush is worth two in the hand
