Vanishing cursor (update 15 March -backed down FF version to 3.58)

Starting several days ago, I cannot see the blinking cursor when I start a topic or reply to one. Also the arrow keys don't work to move the cursor although the backspace key does delete stuff.

 

Same behavior with Firefox (latest 3.6 version) and IE8. Cookies cleared, cache cleared, PC rebooted. No change.

 

The cursor behaves normally on other sites where I type in info and within my applications.

Trojan Newt?? Last time this happened to me around 3 years ago that is what it was? I suppose you have tried another mouse too? Stupid question I know but sometimes it is the easiest ones.....

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

I had those symptoms once before Newt. It wasn't a virus or a worm in my case, but the only way I could get rid of it was a total un-install and re-install of Firefox.

I dunno Cory but for whatever reason, it is OK today after a few days of being very not-OK.

 

I just noticed that when I did this reply the font color is back to black whereas it was a dark blue while the problem was ongoing.

 

Chris - it sounds like you have some weirdness going on too.

Did have Newt!! I had other things as well at the time but I got rid of the Trojan (Forget the name but it was a new one back then) and all was well again! AND then again it wasn't!!! I have lost the ruddy cursor here in Anet!! Can't post anything!! Well I can but I have to set the title and then post and then go back and edit that post!! What is this TREND you've set Newt??

Try downloading malwarebytes and running a scan. It tends to find critters that are overlooked by other programs.

 

I ran it last night and even though it told me I was clean, the problem seems to have cleared after that run and a reboot.

 

It has found nastys on Jan's PC a couple of times when nothing else would.

John - I have FF 3.6 as well so that could have caused the problem. Me thinks I'll drop a dime (10p) on Elton & Si.
