I won't gate-crash the "pike biting through carpers lines" thread, but try this one for size

Apparently the pond is overrun with fish (and these are pasty carp of 1 to 2 lbs BTW) to such a degree that the ducks are not able to feed. The Parish Council require the pond to be cleared of as many carp as possible.

Well, I've encountered the problem of not being able to use floaters because of too many ducks, but this is the first time I've come across carp seeing off the ducks :lol:

Rational explanation ? Dunno, but I have this image of a parish councillor toddling along to the village pond with their paper bag full of crusts for the ducks, and can picture their outrage when a couple of pasties get there first.

Probably a good idea as long as they aren't grass carp. :D

Now you are being silly. "Everyone knows" that bread thrown on grass is for garden birds like sparrows and blackbirds.

Encourage the ducks onto dry land and the blackbirds "wont be able to feed", and you will have every birdlover in the parish demanding a cull of ducks. :P

Besides "everyone knows" that ducks belong on ponds and should be fed there :rolleyes:

Hehehe...This I have seen and so can anyone, at an old hall (KENTWELL HALL) Long Melford Suffolk where the moat is so stuffed with very very large carp and very friendly carp, even kids can stroke them. Throw some bread in and the water will boil with carp taking the bread and push the ducks out of the feeding area their shear numbers and size, so if you want to feed the ducks you have to feed them on the bank.

EDIT:

We are talking the smallest carp about 3' ( 90cms)

Maybe they are some sort of very fragile breed of duck. I have seen ducks compete with double figure Carp for bread and get there fare share. Neither ever seem to bothered by each others presence.

Maybe they could move the line cutter Pike to this pond to control the evil duck bothering pasties.

get some farm fishing trained cats they will sort out both carp and ducks or put a few ads in an East European paper that will sort out both, ducks and carp.

Could it be that the nasty water pigs are clouding the water to such a degree that the ducks are unable to find anything natural to eat ?

Call me a cynic if you will but just as lakes contained fish before the introduction of water pigs, ducks managed to find a feed before bread.
