Heather the Leather Carp Dies

a million miles away from today's stocked ponds of specially bred monsters that, quite plainly, anyone can catch.

To be fair, this was one of the few remaining Yately giants, rather than another big fish stuck in a small hole, so it's understandable that it's fairly high profile.

And the caught 1,000 times thing isn't even true.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

One... thousand... times, it would have had no head left and it certainly would have joined the choir invisible many years earlier !

Unfortunately, as Anderoo quite rightly says, non anglers who read that will see caught and released 1,000 times in a completely different light.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about how a relatively new AN member feels about posting something in good faith and being met with a load of sarcasm, than whether or not the original news item is likely to provoke a mass protest about fish welfare from Sun readers.

How many times has it been caught? Can we really know? Does it really matter?

How did she die? Was it peacefully in her sleep, or choking on a peanut?

Maybe she was like Benson, and liked being caught, just to see what it's like on the 'other' side, and meet up with old friends. That's as well as the pleasure it got from being photographed!

Celebrities eh, what are they like?

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Well said that man.

Where do "Sun readers" come into it Davy?

Stooby has been on this forum a while now, and I give him enough intellegence to realise how some of us will react to this 'news'. Nobody is having a 'pop' at him, just the 'circus' that surrounds this type of thing.

I don't know John, but I bet if you asked on the Cemex forum you'd get a pretty precise answer.

The Sun was the only non-angling-related publication to cover the story, AFAIK. All other mentions refer back to the Sun's coverage. The item has drawn a massive 23 responses on the Sun's website, most of them making jokey remarks and only one being critical of anglers.

I'm sure Stooby is quite capable of defending himself, but I'm also sure that he might have thought twice about posting had he really known what the response was going to be.

I've just been looking on there Andrew, I read a half dozen pages, then had to stop. Eulogies, poems, a whip round for a headstone?

It was a bloody fish!

I bury mine under vegetables or a sauce!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!
