The correct way to tie spade end hooks

If you're hooking and losing 5lbish carp I'd suggest stronger line tied to a decent eyed hook with any secure knot - grinner/uni, palomar, half blood. No need to spade end hooks in that situation.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

One thing no ones mentioned is to always make sure the line comes off the correct side of the hook so the "spade" doesn't cut it!

And wet the knot prior to tightening.

If the end of your hook length is crinkled, then it's more likely a bad/slipped knot. If it's clean break, then the line has snapped and you might need to up the bs, or if you are putting shot on, don't nip it so tight.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I got fat fingers and bad eyes, plus could never get the hang of them bloody matchmen things - then i discovered hooks to nylon  now theres the invention of the century.

I also vote for the palomar on eyed hooks.
