You can get very cheap trainers on amazon Elton. There's a pair on their for 10 or 12 pounds, and they may be cool enough for you, just maybe not us 'fashion victims' ;). Also there are often some of the Karrimor brands on there, for tops 20 pounds and they do look smart, and the pair I have are certainly still going strong and very comfortable.

I have just bought some Karrimor walking shoes from Sports Direct via Amazon. 70quid reduced to 24.99. They are excellent.

Karrimor produce rucksacks and outdoor footwear and are well thought of in mountaineering / hill walking circles.

A lot of my friends in mountain rescue and mountain guiding use their products, though probably at the premium end of the range. I have had several pairs of Karrimor boots in the past and use a karrimor rucksack that is probably 15 years old.

My shoes are well put together and very comfortable. If I had a complaint it is that the lacing system doesn't allow you to pull the laces as tight as I would like and they tend to feel a bit loose around the heel.

They are better with some decent socks though. I bought a couple of packs of these and they are excellent.

At the price they are being sold at they are very good value.

Karrimor went bankrupt a few years back. I understand that Sports Direct now own the brand name so treat their RRP's with a pinch of salt. the Karrimor shoes and other kit sold through SD are however very good value for money. Not just shoes though. I have Karrimor branded backpacks and high vis cycling clothing bought from SD and I've always got good prices - and you get to try them on first.

In general terms I'd say no. They are certainly not recommended now by any of the walking / mountineering forums I frequent. As per the bits above they are not really the same brand they were a few years ago. That said my trainers are great and doing well, and for 20 quid I'm happy if they wear out in half the time of a pair of merrels at 80 quid. I personally wouldn't buy their boots for serious walking use - I prefer a well known and recommended brand. Mine just happen to be Brasher's but there are lots of similar well respected brands about, which will last you years.

Second Sports Direct. Got a set of £85 trainers for £15. You have to hunt around for the bargain section, and it's a bit pot luck. Get all my lads football footware there too
