Chesters1,

Notice I've been missing for a couple days?

I just returned from a meeting in our nation's capitol. Many fishing groups were there as was PETA.

They, PETA is petitioning government to pass a 15 second "fair play" rule. 15 seconds would be the maximum legal time to get a fish to land.

Our most sought after species in the US is black bass. I don't believe you have bass in the UK. In any event, their representative, B.A.S.S., actually said "heck-fire" to the petition. Not nice or well balanced folks, those PETA bunch. In fact, maybe their lack of reason is anglings best ally.

Would have to use 300 pound wire and a broom stick otherwise. Although much more civil, the flyfishermen and salmon fishermen were bewildered by such a request!!

Perhaps you should ask them to detail their research which arrived at this figure.

They have obviously conceeded that hooking and landing a fish within fifteen seconds is fair play and acceptable, so that instantly demolishes any of their previous arguments regarding pain and the moral issue. I think you ought to realise that they are just a bunch of media whores, and a healthy bank balance will never compensate for their miniscule intellects.

When they came over here on their last visit they made fools of themselves, and were laughed at by anglers and non-anglers alike, where ever they appeared. Their media representatives are making a very comfortable living by conning money out of very gullible people, and not a single penny of their income goes towards improving the long-term well being of a single fish.
