SAA, NFA, NAA and the rivers close season..?....

STEVE POPE

Recommended Posts

Lee & Leon will be there at dawn, baitrunners drawn. Later on there will be jousting with me & Phil setting the pace. Alan will be there, padlocks at the ready. The Pope will attend, if only to ask a question & then leave for a spot of fishing! We're booked in for a fortnight & the St Johns Ambulance will be in attendance.

Nice reply waterman, well said it needed to be.

Seems to me a bit like the RSSG have only been going five minutes, have few members and are already trying to call the shots and create conflict with the SAA. Is that because some of the guys so say at the top are matey with Mr Pope who as we already know is no fan of the SAA or seemingly its policies? Sorry if this is not the case ,but it sure seems like it. I hope this wont generate into a power struggle as to who is "appeared" to be doing the best for river anglers.

I'm off to the pub with Bruno.

I wish! Here on the very rural Staffs/Shrops border the village pubs have mostly shut thanks to the ancient Mr William and his automotive penalisation legislation.

We're talking 'drinks at home' country, so I'm off to the cellar for the next bottle of potato potcheen... "distilled from the finest spuds grown on the Wrekin" (not).

Ah, rivers. I remember them. Used to be full of stick-float anglers and club fishermen, cussing the fish that bust them and the flotillas of drifting weed. To them, a 'buzzer' was something that was heard if you got it wrong during the 'Yes/No' interlude on 'Opportunity Knocks'.

And a boilie was something you had to endure for an evening's pleasure with a 'lady' picked up on Arkwright Street.

And they say drink doesn't stimulate melancholy.

Hi Dorsal, the SAA have been going for a mere ten minutes, the RSSG for five!

This is the first time that the term 'power struggle' has been used, and hopefully the last time.

Look on the SAA as being a spokesperson at national level with the RSSG, also at national level, but as a lobby group.

I have no doubt that the RSSG will wholly, and enthusiastically, support the SAA. Provided it sees the SAA's policies & actions as being both good for angling, and, more importantly, good for river anglers.

Should the RSSG feel that any group within the NAA is letting the side down re river fishing then I have no doubt that the RSSG will don its lobbying hat and fire a few well placed broadsides.

The above is a personal opinion, not, in anyway, official RSSG policy. As a keen member that is how I would like to see it proceed. But lets be honest, the SAA has yet to prove itself. Should it prove lacking then who knows what the future will bring.

But there can not, surely, be a take-over from the RSSG. The reason is simple. The RSSG is dedicated to the fragile river system, no more & no less. The SAA represents a far wider interest.

So please, no more talk of power struggles, there isn't, & there won't be one. A few heads might roll at the SAA AGM though!!

Dear Dorsal Fin,

Something you might like to know;

I have met Steve Pope twice. Both times at SACG meetings. The first time we met, I spoke to Steve for about three minutes. The second time for about one minute.

Hardly a basis for our being "matey" or a sound relationship that might get me a key to the vatican washroom. Steve does talk to me occasionally on the telephone. But I am merely just one of so many that infact, probably make up for Telecoms quarterly profits.

Steve Pope does talk to SAA guys like Mike Heylin and others. Infact outside of official SAA and BS affairs, the relationship is quite friendly.

There is going to be NO competition between the RSSG and the SAA or anyone else as far as river issues are concerned. Rivers are far to important to us for that to ever happen.

Regards,

Lee.

As a Comedy of Errors seems to have broken out, and Alan Roe’s threatening us with Drugs. 30 years to late mate, we’re all responsible adults now ……….Well supposedly ???? Bruno’s drinking illicit substances that he got from who knows where in Wrekin land. Birdy has become wholly sponsored by Berty Bassett and is moving to Sheffield to be nearer the beloved plant. Leon’s taken to the road peddling a unicycle. And I myself, allegedly, have taken up with and Italian Ice cream Barons daughter, and can now afford to attend the theatre, all be it in the cheep seats with lots if ice cream.

Perhaps it’s time to set the Vatican on fire and see if the Pope runs out.

Anybody know whether the Barbel Society is a democratic organisation that elects its officers and committee?

Sorry Pete I left you out, how remiss of me, has Bertrix Potter turned up yet with all those fluffy animals?

Poor old Cranfield will be fast asleep after this as he’s yawning now!
