Lee - sorry the Mars bars are out - you ain't ready yet.

You mustn't rush these things. I've been trying to bring you on at a set rate so you don't peak too soon.

Best you're gonna get is:

5 x Allsorts - I'll pick which types

4 x Jelly Babies - you can choose which colours

2 x Jelly Worms - orange only

and

1 x Gobstopper - green only

PS. Hasn't your mummy told you about taking sweets from strange men?

As a Comedy of Errors seems to have broken out, and Alan Roe’s threatening us with Drugs. 30 years to late mate, we’re all responsible adults now ……….Well supposedly ???? Bruno’s drinking illicit substances that he got from who knows where in Wrekin land. Birdy has become wholly sponsored by Berty Bassett and is moving to Sheffield to be nearer the beloved plant. Leon’s taken to the road peddling a unicycle. And I myself, allegedly, have taken up with and Italian Ice cream Barons daughter, and can now afford to attend the theatre, all be it in the cheep seats with lots if ice cream.

Perhaps it’s time to set the Vatican on fire and see if the Pope runs out.

Anybody know whether the Barbel Society is a democratic organisation that elects its officers and committee?

Sorry Pete I left you out, how remiss of me, has Bertrix Potter turned up yet with all those fluffy animals?

Poor old Cranfield will be fast asleep after this as he’s yawning now!

Allow me to add to the boredom factor Phil. Your charecter comes across very well in the above posting.

Victor Meldrew and Beatrix Potter! Who ever next? Two people who have given society a great deal of pleasure.

Grey, spot on, but atleast join the ACA.

Now thats a pointed question phil. I not sure how many changes there have beeen on the BS committee and if indeed they are re-elected each year by the members or themselves.

I do know that a friend of mine wanted to ask some potentialy awkward questions at the agm, he was told (as most agms) that he had to put all questions in writing way in advance. That way the questions asked at the AGM were vetted beforehand so guess what....it was never heard. If that is democratic then yes they all are.

Duncan that’ll be two of us then!

You had better make that three!!!!!

Also a RSSG member, Have read with interest the various comments and fail to see where the problem is. 99% are quite rightly in favour of retaining the Close season, the only argument appears to be which is the best organisation ti protect it and fight for it.

What a load of codswollap! Does it matter? as long as we are successful who cares. Is the very arguments you are all makeing so elequently just what is wrong with angling, none of you can agree to disagree on certain issues but generally get together for the good and protection of angling and anglers. Surely the SAA was formed to try and unify, the BS made it quite plain as did one or two ther organisations that they would not join at the formation stage due to events of the past but would prefer to sit and see how things panned out. That is there right, the door has been left open for the future. Knowing some of the individuals concerned I am sure that if the close season does come under threat once again from the threat of commercilism then a united front will I'm sure be shown and those from all groups that have inlfuence and negotiating skills will be used.

I joined both the SAA and the RSSG because I believe that we owe it to give our support for those organisations that we feel can protect and influence. The SAA because my own personal opinion is that I think we need unity and compromise and in the likes of Mike and others the basis is there for that to happen in the future. The RSSG because within an all encompassing organisation you need specialist ones prodding and fighting for it's own division and at the moment the SAA to my mind leans to far to the specialist side of the sport to protect the rights of all. Just to com[plete the hat trick I am also a member of the BS, firstly because I love them and secondly because I think Steve and all the committee do a superb job in protecting both the fish and the rights of it's members. Hopefully the RSSG will do the same.

Nice posts Mr Hacket and Dorsal, you have many supporters. It is common knowledge that if Steve Pope steps down, the whole of the B.S committee will follow suit. So nothing will ever change and the society has become stagnent. S.P actualy stands for Self Promotion also. Brian

Tony,

I thought that it is permissable to fish for eels on rivers in the close season, subject to using hooks over a certain larger size than would be used for roach etc?

Tight Lines - leon

Hi Leon,

The byelaws in the north west, (were I am from) state;

"The annnual close season for eels in non tidal parts of rivers, streams and parts of rivers canalised for navigational purposes shall bethe period from the 15th day of March to and including the 15th day of June following. There shall be no close season for fishing for eels with rod and line in tidal waters, *There shall be no close season for fishing for eels with instruments other than rod and line in waters not frequented by salmon and trout.* it shall belawful to fish for eels with a rod and line during the annual close season for rainbow trout.

(nw8 11/10/89).

Take a look again at the parts marked between * = *.

Does that mean I only have to be sure that the river / stream I want to fish has no salmon / trout in it.

I feel this to be a bit dodgy, ok I could fish a sewer type stream, But I have seen trout in this type of water which the E A have stocked to see if they are surviving.

I dont wish to fish in the estuary area as its a "Bootlace eel a chuck"

There is no mention of hook size in my copy of the byelaws,

Tony B.T Jolley
