What have people got against Carp fishing or any other fishing?? I read a topic and it said 'oh it's a shame it was mainly about Carp fishing' but people do that all the time. Why?? it's all the same sport!!!

sorry Nathan, I dont think it is, you wont catch me sitting around a mud hole just to catch a big carp, i'd rather be tackling a river with all its differant currents, snags, features, i bet we see more natural wildlife around the river bank that you would around a mud hole in the middle of a field, but, each to their own as they say :D:D

I'm not against fishing for carp, but I do feel that the specialist carp anglers distance themselves from those who are happy to catch 'lesser fish' Whilst carp are just about the biggest fish, bar catfish, in our waters, carp anglers would also have us believe that they are far more intelligent than other species. It then follows that, to catch a super-intelligent fish, you have to be a super-intelligent angler. I'm sceptical about the 'science' of carp fishing, though I can't claim to know all that much about it. It seems to me that if a hungry fish happens upon something it identifies as food, then that is probably all there is to it. If you have to prebait with a hundredweight of a particular type of boilie, just to persuade the carp that it is a food item, then more fool you. What I do find quite distasteful is the practise of fishing in heavily stocked, tiny artificial lakes. I saw one, recently, where the anglers on one side could almost have touched rod-tips with the anglers on the other side. It was a regular rectangle, with no features at all, an it supposedly held carp up to around 30lb. That's like going to fish an ornamental pond in somebody's garden. I'd hope that the true carp angler would get most satisfaction from outwitting carp in as near to their natural habitat as possible, and that this would be as important as the size of the fish... but maybe not.

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

its tribalism ,we used to kill people (well the governments still do) because they were different (pre stone age thing in passing on only your dna) so now we form "clubs" or "cliques" to preserve a particular way of life or veiw ,instead of chest beating we now have banter :) if the banter gets out of hand instead of throwing stones we now ridicule the opposition ,if the ridicule fails then instead of a quick war dance and all going out to kill a lone member of the other tribe we practice underhand stuff like character assination or deliberate lies ,if that fails instead of war we tell a MOD who deletes the offending article :D i prefer the old way myself you cant continue an argument with a dead man ,but you can K**b his wife and daughters :)

Odd. I don't see anywhere that he mentioned mud holes or even non-muddy ponds.

If you want some serious fun, catch a few carp from white water. They are equal to trout in being able to live well in fast water as long as the river is fertile.

Pangolin:

Oh boy Pangolin, you've gone an assumption too far, mate - about a light year too far at least.

Sadly, my carping mates and I really ARE living dis-proof of that statement. :D

Pangolin - your perception of carp anglers and carp angling is totally ridiculous. I am totally bewildered by your comment:

"If you have to prebait with a hundredweight of a particular type of boilie, just to persuade the carp that it is a food item, then more fool you."

Where on earth do you get that from?

As for this:

"What I do find quite distasteful is the practise of fishing in heavily stocked, tiny artificial lakes. I saw one, recently, where the anglers on one side could almost have touched rod-tips with the anglers on the other side. It was a regular rectangle, with no features at all,"

I would, and do, find this distasteful too - but I've never seen "Carp Anglers" fishing this type of venue - only idiots with rods in their hands who do not know what they are doing, not Carp Anglers, but 'NODDY'S'

I match/pleasure fish and carp fish too,and i am quite sucsessfull at both, does that mean everybody will hate me  LOL :D

To do well you have to be a good angler, there are chuck and chance it anglers in both branches of the sport who catch very little. I suggest these are the ones who make the most negative comments :P
