Snow depth?

I haven't measured it, but I cleared a few inches off the cars this morning and then the same again this afternoon.

Yesterday I emailed a customer in Fife to let him know his order was in the post, He told me that he had 18"! That must be near the hem of a kilt surely?

It's similar in Perthshire where a lot of our paperweights come from.

Here in East Kent where we're very close to the continent we often get hit by snowy weather and there's often a sharp dividing line just to the west of Ashord.

It seems we're not too bad here compared to some other parts of the South East this time though. Mind you, there's some "creative reporting" going out. I saw a local news clip where it was claimed there was over a foot of snow. No way! It was less than we've had - which takes me back to my original point.

18 inches of snow in parts of Fife or Perthshire would not surprise me. I lived in both those counties and they both get real snow. My mum lives in a place that does not often get much snow and they have had powder falling for about 48 of the last 72 hours. She has about a foot of snow lying outside her door.

We had about 4 inches in Southampton overnight, the most I have seen here for the 22 years I have lived here. Most of it is still here.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Even when snow is not melting/evaporating, if you have 6" in the morning, and 6" in the afternoon, because the new snow pushes down on the earlier fall, you end up with less than the 12" that has fallen during the day because of compression.

Funnily enough I'd just said the same to Peggy earlier this evening having measured the depth again and, despite a liitle more snow, the ruler indicated half an inch less!

The snow has been been heavy here in Whitley Bay tonight but stopped now. Intend going down to the seafront in the morning to check/photograph the sunrise/snow
