 Nice one Dave! Ive been there! Also on the other receiving end as I had a near crash with a Volvo as I turned in front of it......my "back seat driver" insisting the Volvo had "flashed" me to turn!!!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Actually says it all Budgie.just leads to confusion for other "common" drivers............and it uses more fuel.

Now Chesters is a Volvo owner, I would be interested in his take on the sub-class of busybody that only Volvo owners know about.

These people have never heard of daylight running lights, and every time they encounter a Volvo start flashing their lights, blowing their horns, wildly gesticulating with their hands and whatever else seems necessary to attract your attention. Attention to their own driving is suddenly low priority (I wonder if anyone has actually run off the road whilst doing the above)..

I have developed a special sigh and a muttered "What a prat" for these events.

i have no car part in my brain its just wheels ,whatever stereotype that comes with volvo will not be coming with it :D

the 4 gear carb version isnt the best on fuel i'l agree its about the same as a series three landy but sturdier ,more comfortable ,more powerful with brakes steering and heaters that work ^_^

i believe our euro masters are planning a running light law making them mandatory not a bad idea since i already have them the volvo will then do the gesticulating :D

theres some laws that you should remember when buying a trailer.

your car must have a trailer indicator beeper that beeps when your trailer indicators are working ,if not it can be fitted.i find this a very strange bit of logic its far easier to get used to a sound then not hear it than a sound that suddenly appears telling you an indicator bulb has blown ,typical eu thinking i expect

Not necessarily a beeping warning. A visual warning device is legitimate in the UK as accepted under construction and use regs.

Some of the 'in series' rear mounted beepers fitted as aftermarket devices do not comply with current legislation!

if its unbraked then it must have a securing chain/wire that cannot break and is short enough not to let the trailer hitch hit the road if it comes off the ball.

Only if the trailer was manufactured after 1st January 1997.

You had me worried there for a minute mate

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

I too have joined the Subaru fishing wagon club; mum wanted rid of her old Impreza Sport estate, the two litre non-turbo model, so we bought it off her. The car's a lovely old thing, the interior plastics might be really nasty looking, but they're robust and it feels really well screwed together. Four wheel drive with low range, not that I really need it. Swallows two mountain bikes no messing, and I expect I could fit every bit of fishing kit I own in it. Air con works, the car is quiet on the motorway, not at all quick flat out, but relaxing power delivery.

Of course, with a practical, comfy estate car on the drive, a lot of the justification for the RX-8 went out of the window - what was brilliant about the RX-8 was that it was a comfortable, civilised four seat sports car with a big boot and through-loading. With no need for four seats or any luggage capacity, I was free to change it for something a bit less practical:

I reckon I could get my fly rod in it, but that's about it!

not up on the beeper / sight bit but a "warning" is needed beepers are within the law as are aftermarket ones if they refuse to beep if a lights blown which is the point.

strangely we had to fit an after market beeper on our 89 merc camper but a beeper is standard on an 89 volvo :D

missed this post ,but you might as well comply even if its older than 97 ,plod will need proof of its age so you can be let free ;) vosa will be very interested in old trailers in the spring rush camping or the dump run

ADDITION ,your tow bar is now subject to an inspection in an mot ,strangely not the electrics though  the bits that fail most often

There may be 2 Subaru Outbacks in the car park next time Elton goes to Wingham.

I've just bought an early version of the current model, a 2.5SE auto to replace my Volvo Cross Country. This was after a lot of research and finding that there are massive differences in offroad ability between different so called offroaders, as videos on You Tube clearly show.

I've already found the Outback is very much better than the Volvo offroad, indeed I gather in some parts of the world it's used as a rescue vehicle when "proper" 4x4s get stuck!

I do miss the acceleration of the Volvo onroad, but not the poor fuel economy, and certainly not the big repair bills!

Onroad the Outback is nicer than full-size 4x4s, even if they are superior for "rockhopping". For Wingham though the Outback with 8ins of ground clearance plus its great ability in the mud fits the bill beautifully.
