What pole ?

How do all. It's probably been covered before, but as a new kid on the block I could do with some advice with regards to buying a new pole.

I'm no great pole angler, and although I have more than a shilling to spend, because I don't do that much pole fishing I don't want to spend silly money purchasing one.

I suppose my main criteria would be to have the lightest, stiffest, well balanced pole currently available, that would also tame 10-15lb carp if they were hooked. I don't want much then ehh ?

I was interested in the Garbolino Super League, but as well as shelling out £1,600, would my numptiness allow me to land a big un without smashing it into a 1,000 pieces ??? My second choice was a Trabucco GM Carp 1, £999, on which I have read good reports. Followed by the Lerc/Preston Innovations CM80 and 90, several massively discounted older Daiwa poles and a whole host of others.

I have thought about writing to the angling press, but realise I would probably only get a particular anglers sponsored products suggested to me.

Can anybody out there come up with an alternative or at least point me in the right direction ? Cheers.

Erm...but then you'd become a temporary carper and as, according to you, 'ALL carpers suck', and you 'hate carpers' - this self-loathing would surely reduce your bankside enjoyment.

Try trolling, mate. Oh, you already have.

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.

Carper hater, you know what you should do? You should buy the most expensive, stiffest and lightest pole you can afford and stick it up your a##e :D:D

And if you think that is offensive then you have no sense of humour,

Well if that's not silly money for someone who doesn't do much pole fishing, I don't know what is. If you do buy one of those 2 mentioned and get bored with it, send me an email.

Blimey, have I logged on to CarpRus by mistake ??? So much angst hidden in those feeble attempts at wit, what do you think poledark ? It's alright pd, I know what humour is ta very much, and honestly, you don't have to try and hide behind a joke after being nasty and insulting me, i'm a big boy(ooer missus)and can take it on the chin.

Howard, would at least once a week for the next 20-30 years justify the cost ? "I don't do that much pole fishing", just means i'm not a regular match fisherman, but I can assure you i'm in angling for the long haul !

Hey hey, calm down jeepster calm down, sound advice mate, and between me and you i've already tried it, but unfortunately the splinters were, quite literally, a reet pain in t'@rse.

Wordbender, fishing for silverfish and accidently hooking one of those fat hideous beasts would never reduce me to self-loathing, I love myself far far too much for that. Oh and by the way, well spotted, i'm glad at least one member on these boards appreciated my trolling !:D

Anyway, thanks for all the advice, an 8lb test curve boat rod, 60lb braid, and a 40mm beetroot, sharkfin soup and peardrop boilie it is then. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep...

Enjoy your next fishing trip and tightlines. :)
