when in folkestone we rot teeth after visiting the sweety shop that stocks th old favourites but are they ? are they cleaned up versions of old sweets after all Army and Navy sweets used to contain "Paragoric " then went onto taste like paragoric but now the new jars say original but have licorice as the taste :blink:

how can something be original but not contain the same ingredients :rolleyes: how can something be original at all in this day and age ,was it shifted by huge 40 ton lorries in 1908 or whenever do the ingredients have dandruff and horsehair etc like the stuff did when its was original ? were werthers "original" in foil bags when they were first made? even the bloody name isn't original :rolleyes:

I remember that! Fry's "Five Centres" it was called. Quite different to Fry's Chocolate Cream, which is the stuff they still sell today.

 

The five flavours were strawberry, lime, orange, pineapple and coffee. Wikipedia says raspberry instead of coffee, but they may have varied the centres for different markets - I'm sure I remember coffee.

The TV ad for Jubbly was the origin of Del Boy's "Lovely Jubbly" catchphrase.

Jubbly is still availabe. Same manufacturer as the 50s and 60s too.

Remember "Spangles"? The old acid drop spangles were my favourites, and of course fruit Polos!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

yes but a tenth of the size and probably containing real juice which is tasteless ,you may get cancer or colitis from the old stuff but you could taste the flavour ,hovis is a bland bread now everything is "good" in it :D

Wagon Wheels are not only smaller, but I recall they used to be covered with real chocolate. How it's just a chocolate flavour coating. :(

i'v emailed them to enquire if its real after all a 70 grams bar is hardly traditional :rolleyes:

 

thats the trouble with everything there is no punishment for lying today ,if something is "traditional" "original" etc and nothing of the sort IE everything including the weight and wrapper should be made as it was in the beginning the manufacturer should be whipped to an inch of their lives and then his children forced into cleaning chimneys

back to my army and navy it states original liquorice flavour i have clearly proved it wasn't liquorice flavoured originally but nothing is done ,i feel an email is due! (shakes fist in the air)
