Can anyone get a reasonably accurate length from that pic? What are the dimensions of those scales?

hard to say but they look like these Reuben heatons: http://www.johnsonrosstackle.co.uk/index.p...products_id=514

doesnt have size of em though but other similar Reuben in that range had a diameter of 170mm: http://www.aucarc.com/item/83493/reuben-he...ing-scales.html

Some clonkin chub there ! Some rivers do seem to produce really fat fish that don't appear much longer, if any, than chub of several pounds lighter in other rivers. The fishs' diet seems to be the first thing that comes to mind but maybe there's more to it.

Cheers Andy. If that's the case I make that chub about 23.5" from nose to fork of tail and 25" from nose to tip of tale. Not especially long for a fish of that weight, but when you look at the girth of it I can well believe it's that big. Amazing! I am assuming from the scales that it was caught while carping, and probably therefore on boilies, but that's only guesswork.

BTW does anyone know the dimensions of normal Avon scales?

That fish does look enormous, but at about 23.5" long can it really weigh over 9lb?

You have seen one or two big Chub recently, what do you think. Did you get any length measurements from your fish?

I guess it's the thing about pictures it does not realy give much away on the depth of the fish, but it does look to have some belly on it.

Ive seen one 8lb chub in the flesh and another in a photo and could well believe the weight given for the one shown despite its relatively short frame. Both the previous chub I mention were "fat" 6's (if that makes sense?)

I really believe most species have a "normal" maximum and most "biggys" are simply fat! Bit like people just because someone is exceptionally heavy that don't mean they have to be 7' tall! (like one piece suit manufacturers seem to believe!)

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
