Im going tench fishing later in the week. I shall be using sweetcorn, Vad Den Eynde maple syrup sweetcorn and prawns. I will also be colouring my prawns red with food colouring. I think i will waggler fish a few inches overdepth.

What do you guys recon about this plan of action? Any other ideas?

Sounds pretty good to me, athough I don't think I'd bother with the food colouring unless the tench spook at normal colour prawns. Are you planning to use any groundbait at all??

I was going to colour the prawns to make them stand out a bit more. I won't bother.

I may use some groundbait. Tenchas 3000 with juice from the tin of sweetcorn instead of water.

I guess i could buy some cockles before i go. I have never used them before.

Cheers guys

Fred,

I remember reading your dads book a long while ago when he used cockles on "Twitchalot" and Owls Pit.If my memory serves me correctly he didn't have a great deal of success on them at the time of writing, did they subsequently prove any more successful?

I recall that the first night he used them he could only get them in jars, didn't seem very impressed.

It was a brilliant book though, how's he doing these days?

Koi Carp - the color may or may not do well. I know nothing whatever of tench.

But bear in mind that red is the first color to vanish in the water. Don't have to be very deep before it simply isn't seen at all. So if you need to make the bait stand out and are fishing more than a couple of feet down, use a different color. Dark blue probably stays visible for the greatest distance but no telling what a tench would think of dark blue food. Might like the idea.

I know the color works well at times on largemouth bass so it may do fine for Tench as well.

Good luck matey,

The only thing that I would say is that Prawns are a good bait if Mr & Mrs Tinca have seen them before, ie they need to be introduced (baited) with them first so they recognise them as a good food source. But once they have "cottened" on to them to them, they work very well.

Let us know how you get on .

Del.

P.S. after ther the Doc myself in the morning, they like breadflake where I am going (nice and cheap) fingers crossed..!!

P.P.S. As for colour I really do not think that it is an issue IMHO fish go for taste/smell and not colour, just my opinion.
