Its good to see the occasional female on the site like lancs lass and others, but there all to rare and even more so on the banks in general.Im proud to be able to say my great grandmother was in the founding committee and was secretary to:- the womens angling association. and in the ripe old age of eighty and when i was still young she handed down her rod to me...it was an intrepid. at about the same time there was on the local radio station a debate with women calling in complaining of there husbands abandoning them for there fishing every weekend. Barrie ricards was there defending the angler (never heard of him before or since). My old grandmother phoned in and in no uncertain terms told the other old women not to be so boring and to "if you can't beat them join them". she won a signed copy of "the fundamental principles of angling" by barrie ricards which i still possess as it also was handed down to me. She ws a great women and did her bit for her sport (espically considering how it might be percieved in those days). I think though that there is still much to do to encourage the fairer sex into the sport. what say you all?

pink bivies and Laura Ashley rods should do it,seriously though my wife came fishing with me four or five times last summer and throughly enjoyed herself also caught her first fish of 1lb/1/2 (mirror carp) and is looking forward to going again as soon as the weather warms up a bit.

I have wrestled with reality for 46 years, still wrestling.

Im just introducing my mrs to fishing and she loves it. Thing is, fishing appeals to the hunting nature in blokes and the need for solitude, a lot of women do find this boring. I think that ladies would find fishing more interesting if thier was greater emphasis on the social side of the sport, a chance to get together and share the experience with other anglers rather than sit alone on the bank.
