Myself and scottca are going for our first lure session tomorrow and so this thread is really interesting.... however ;) the names of these lures dont mean much to me and pictures tell a thousand words, so is anyone able to put up pictures of the ones they refer to similar to what Emma done on one of her posts (Thanks Emma!!)??

Sorry, but all those names are just flying over my head for a first time Lure man... give me a few weeks and I'll be able to join in hopefully!

Cheers,

Stu...

1. Large Gold Ondex Spinner - Found it very good for Pike and had enough Perch and Trout on it to class it as a good all rounder.

2. Large Rapala Countdown Magnum, Fire Tiger Pattern - OK for Pike, Perch plus Snapper, Grouper etc (can also be used for trolling)

3. Red Head Popper - A must have for fishing in the tropics, everything will have a go at it and good for Pike in the summer at home.

4. Big S Plug - Never had a preference for any pattern. Still takes a fair share of fish despite the vogue for new rubber shads etc

5. Small Silver Mepps with blue spots - Classic trout lure and caught more on this simple lure then any other.

Im no Lure fisherman although I have a lure box with around 40 assorted 'Big S' lures together with a few others.

However when I mentioned to a mate that I wanted to do some lure fishing this year he recomended these Soft 4Play lures

<Soft 4Play Lures>.

I may be wrong but I think I saw some in the tackleshop at Christchurch but I will be getting mine from my local tackleshop or ordering them over the web.

heres another video showing some great Perch being caught on them

<Catching Perch on Soft 4Play Lures>

heres another video showing some Pike being caught on them

<Catching Pike using Soft 4Play Lures>

has anyone on here used them?? I must admit they look superb and very realistic.

I bought a few of them, in various sizes, both the hard and soft body types. I got the chance to use them a couple of times back in the autumn when there was a chance to still catch something. I havn't caught on them yet but they do look very much the 'business', and I expect that they wikk do well once the pike lure fishin season begins when things warm up and come to life in the spring.

A mate bought some last year, about 4" in long soft body & he gave me one to try. 1st time out we both caught a couple of pike on them form weed beds where they fished very well with the weedless single hook that was supplied with them.

Yes, I got a load of them to use for perch. I've used them a fair bit now and still haven't caught anything on them. I think the fault is with me rather than the lure - whereas the paddle tailed shads like the kopytos and similar are easy to work, I think the soft4plays are harder to get right.

Interesting that like me, you rate these highly - I expected to be told I was w-a-a-a-y behind the times.

In fact if really pushed and limited to 5 lures to last the rest of my life I might chose two Ondex and three Mepps - and use strong braid to minimise losses to snags !
