Can anyone give me a guide to the types & amount of bait to take, (should I be picked), in May.

 

I had trouble deciding what to take last year and in the end I decided to keep it simple (no choice, I didn't know what else to do). Four large sliced loaves of liquidised bread in a bait bucket with two large tins of corn and a couple of big handfuls of pre-cooked hemp chucked in. That cost me about £12 and it lasted me the whole weekend, corn on a hair rig and the feed moulded into a cage feeder covered the tench/bream angle. It worked spectacularly well and if I get to go this year I'll do the same thing. I did also take lobs & maggots for perch, I caught an eel at which point those baits were retired and I just fished for the tench & bream.

 

For most people it's a one off visit so don't agonise too much over bait, if you go with loads of choices you'll spend too much time experimenting and the weekend will be gone before you know it. Take something you have confidence in for the species, stick with it and trust in Steve's swim allocation and advice.

I would be interested to see how you would tackle Wingham and am sure some of the other Wingham lads like Budgie, Anderoo etc would also be curious to see how you might try to solve our Bream conundrum. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel to a big water specialist like you :D

I have just a few too many fishing projects on the go to get tempted.

 

I think of places like wingham as being like the most beautifull woman in the world allowing you just one short lovemaking session.

 

You might just then want it all the time spoiling what you already have. :lol:

 

Besides you would not want an iliterate grumpy old git down there amongst all you refined anglers. :D:D

Maybe best, we don't want an ocean pit types turning up and bagging up on Bream after we have spent years telling everyone how hard they are to catch :D

That's about the best advise there is! Do what you're most comfortable with, and you'll be fine.

 

PS I reckon the bream puzzle is now solved!

Well, being a glutton for punishment, I'd like the chance to have another crack at Wingham this year.

Last year didn't go well for me but I'll be better prepared this time.

 

Do you think Steve'd let me have a play in my 'yak? :lol: I could run the ultimate bait boat service... hmmm... might be onto something! Probably get attacked by a Pike or something ;)

 

I rushed myself last year, gave myself too many options. I think Rusty has it spot on. Fish in your comfort zone and stick with it. I don't think a place like Wingham treats chopping and changing tactics kindly.

 

On a personal note Mark, broads tactics have no place here I think. I don't think I really appreciated how easy it is to fish the broads until I went to Wingham and the Fen meet. It's a whopping great place (bigger than Salhouse Broad). Location is everything.

 

I intend to use my first few hours mapping out my swim this time instead of a quick check and guesstimating each cast. I'd recommend the same to everyone who's never been before.

This Years' Targets:- As many species by lure as possible. Preferably via Kayak. 15lb+ Pike on Lure...

Species Caught 2012- Pike, Perch.

Kayak Launches- Fresh-8 Salt- 0

Kayak Captures- 14 Pike, 1 Perch.
