Top tip - don't cane a load of wine and then look at the cars for sale on ebay. A 25-year-old Jag for £200? What could possibly go wrong

See my post! Honestly, that's almost word perfect for what happened to me except it was an old Merc with moondust in what was left of the tyre treads!

I've had good times and bad times both buying and selling on ebay. Actually sending an item can be the biggest nightmare. Not long ago I posted off three rods and two of them (both brand new unused) got snapped in transit even though they where both in brand new hard plastic rod tubes. One was sent by royal mail who did pay me what i'd sold the rod for, all be it months later. The other company was City link who destroyed the rod and wouldn't pay out compensation for damaged fishing tackle !!! They even told my Mr's that it was most likely the machinery they have that had broken the rod !!!

The good thing about ebay is how easy it makes finding older tackle that would have been very difficult to come across otherwise.

I am not going to moan too much about private people because you take your chance and you know that before you go on there and if you get the **** then bad luck but you got to take it on the chin.

My grief is with retailers as you should really be able to trust them and again in general they have been good but if it’s not the right size or whatever the hassle you go through just because they cock up. If they cock up they should send the courier to you get picked up but know you have to go through all the crap to send it back and they say we will refund the postage...OK now what about packaging costs what about YOUR cock up. Perhaps a reel of line as compensation...Not a chance!

The worst I have ever had was selling a car. It was something I stitched up from nothing as a bit of a project (old Golf GTI MK2). Those are the cars you can’t really sell anywhere else as its specialist and old. A collector bought it and I had put collect within 36 hours. He said he would pick it up but then a week went by then another and another. After 1 month he said I do want it but I get paid in 3 weeks. I had enough and complained to e-bay. The usual 2 weeks to come to a mutual arrangement and he still kept to his month. After 2 weeks I reported to E-bay as a case. Another month went by and nothing from e bay. Then I contacted them and again yes we are still dealing with it on the phone and after 2 weeks I had given up and life was to short!

Then, when I saw my e-bay fee I went nuts! They had charged me for the sell. It was not peanuts either. I complained but nothing and in the end I just gave up out of pocket and no car sold. I gave him negative feedback and he gave it back!...

My mate recently sold an outboard engine on the 'bay to a guy in Brighton (my mate lives here in Suffolk).

Imagine his surprise when the guy turned up to collect it....on a moped! :o

Admittedly, it was a small outboard, but even a small outboard isn't that small :D

I use ebay a lot for buying stuff, but very rarely bid in the auctions. Nearly everything I buy is 'buy it now'. I still get some good bargains as I'm usually prepared to wait for what I want to appear, and it does away with the hassle of sellers messing you about.

I've never sold anything on it, mainly because I really can't bear wrapping stuff up and getting it posted

I don't drink these days, but haven't managed to kick the 'buying stuff at stupid O'clock on eBay' habit that came with my previous love of beer. Most recent one was a 4am Mercedes, which I love to bits :D

Likewise, I buy virtually everything on eBay, but hardly ever view auction items. It's all Buy It Now stuff for me. The Daily Deals are a pain - I bought some t-shirts this very morning!

The latest trick is when they win an high priced item that is being sent courier or recorded/special they pay for it then are not in when the post arrives, they then do not contact the courier/royal mail who then send it back to sender.

As the courier / royal mail paper trail now shows sender has received goods back, sender is liable to give buyer ALL money back, sometimes with compensation and also loses out on postage cost.

RUDD

I dont understand why though?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Ebay isn't what it used to be - full of muppets and retailers now - but still if you do your homework on the seller/buyer and check their feedback I've never had a problem other than the odd thing that I've bought that needed returning. I never sell to anyone with no feedback. On this basis, I've bought fishing tackle, even expensive guitars and guitar parts from the USA and far east with no problem. Maybe I've just been lucky not to get rolled. :)

Heavy head on here

To be fair the retailers did not really have much of a choice to join E-bay for their Business. In these hard times I don’t blame them or anyone doing what they can do to save their livelihood.

We now have private sellers selling baits already tied up in PVC and they do sell because even the Angler has things a lot easier nowadays. So I don’t blame anyone on E-bay advertising but you have to play fair. The other thing is E-bays system can’t cope anymore and they refuse obviously to up their complaints and to deal with disputes. Ten years ago I had a similar thing and within 3 weeks I was compensated but not now and I hear so many more stories that many just give up as its pointless.

Feedback too is a bit of a farce as many members are in fear of giving Negative feedback even though they are 100% in the right because the seller who is 100% wrong will give them negative feedback just out of spite and/or to defend their product so it gives a mind set to others as maybe they were not at fault?

The Govt in some way have to look at E-bay to see what is going on and I will stake my life on it that they will probably find corruption and deceits from everyone from top to bottom. But why should it bother them. They will think to themselves as like all govts if it does not threaten their govt why spend money on it...

Well i saw a Greys rod brand new was £150.

The guy had it up for auction and i managed to win it for £25. The next day i contacted him and we made arrangements to meet today to complete the transaction. Well last night it seems he had all his tackle stolen. How unlucky can one be

Well it could be that as you had made a verbal contact the rod was your property, ask him for the crime number as you need it for your insurance company.

That may well make him wish he had of had the tackle stolen. :D

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

"Even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work."

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.
