I'll second Nicks advice, except that I have just bought a C82, print quality absolutely SUPERB.

Do you have the option to preview the prints?

Hi chesters ..

Pic looks fine on screen, but when printed is very "Light" or "Faint"

I have to considerably "Darken" the pic on the PC before I get a "solid" print.

aha there should be a setting that allows you to "match" your software ,your printer and your monitor so they all see the same thing (and scanner as well )what looks ok on the screen may not be whats sent to the printer ,i cant remember whats its called but for the monitor its the calorific value ,nick who may use photoshop may know how to set it up i use psp so cant help :(

why printers cant have a darken slider on them like old laser printers did i dont know

Its strange how you are getting such bad prints ... even with glossy photo paper and a low dpi printer you can get a semi-decent print, have you set your Printer Properties to know that you are using glossy photo paper?

Or it could be that your printer heads/nozzles need a wipe possibly.

I agree with Nick, the Epson 925 or 950 is a very good choice. I take a lot of digital photos, mainly of Scottish scenery etc, and ship a number of A4 size prints to the US and around the UK the quality is that good from the 925.

Hi Lads ..

I've heard about this "setting up" of monitor/printer/scanner, but haven't the faintest idea how to do it. Getting everything to appear the same is beyond me !

Compaq Pressario PC.

HP Scanjet 2100c Scanner.

Cannon BJC 250 printer.

Windows XP.

Fuji Finepix F601Z Camera.

Adobe Photoshop Pro 7

Corel Draw/Photopaint

hopefully an adobe user will help , i cannot find the setup for my hp2200c scanner anywhere  my excellent cheap revscan (with inbuilt transparency dooda) that i sold on being homeless was cheaper than the hp ,had better software than the hp and had the ability to be setup with the monitor and printer :)

It is easy to do if you have an Adobe product.

First go to

Start/Settings/Control panel.

In there you will see an icon called Adodbe Gamma

Just follow the instructions even an idiot can do it!!!.

Now the hard bit.

Load a picture and print it out using the proper settings ie Glossy paper etc etc and inspect the print out.

You should get one of two things:,

1/ A perfect printout picture that matches the monitor exactly or

2/ one that doesn't

If it doesn't then all you do is alter the monitor controls until you do get a perfect match.

Remember only alter the controls on the monitor itself this time.

Now all your printouts will look exactly the same on paper as they do on screen
