My Fishing Tackle Garage/Shed

Recommended Posts

I think this is the right place to post this, it is Course fishing related.

Long story short my garage was filling up with my fishing gear, it was becoming hard to find my gear and I was not happy with how well it was keeping. So I decided to build a section in my Garage to accommodate my hobbies & Passion - Fishing.

Below are some Pics

I started last weekend, doing bits and bobs during the week. So far I have completed the frame work.

Using 100mm x 50mm PSE European Redwood, 80mm Screws and plenty of glue I have my 3 wall bench, complete with under bench storage and plenty of rack space.

Next on the list is 5x sheets of Moisture Resistant MDF to line the 3 walls and 3 table tops. Im well happy with it, its nice to keep the old skills in use.

I've now lined the workshop walls and tables. I used 12mm thick Moisture Resistant MDF hence the green. This should help deal with any damp that can occur in the seasons. 4 & 1/2 sheets in total, not cheap stuff but It will last. I then quickly went around the joints and corners with a clear silicone sealant to prevent any water, gunk or fish slime from the equipment and fishing gear falling in.

In case anyone is wondering about doing this themselves, This has cost me so far £409 + VAT.

Just over 35 meters of 100mm x 50mm PAR European Redwood, 5 sheets of 12mm MR MDF, 1x box of 100mm screws, 3x boxes of 80mm screws, 2x boxes of 25mm screws, 1x PVA MR glue, 2x Tubes of silicone sealant, 1x Irwin 12tpi Hard point saw, 1x 6mm SDS drill bit and 1x box of 60mm brown raw plugs.

I bought these all from Jewsons as its the closest builders merchant. I do not have a trade account. If I did im sure there would be some small amount of discount.

Finished.

I got most of my Fishing gear in, with most of my tools. Needless to say its one of the best things Ive done, I had a great time building it and it was well worth it, Ive still got to put the rods up on the Left side of the wall along with some other equipment. Fishing 4 Life.

Great job Jason! Just play safe though and get some good quality locks and an alarm on that door! Forget about wasting money on cameras as some will recommend as believe you me sat watching a video of scum bags nicking your gear ain't no compensation!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Thanks :D

It has an alarm built in and their is also extra locking on the door. The garage can't be opened. I spot welded it, then sealed the whole thing with Fixing foam. Fingers crossed a break in never happens.

Only down side is the fridge needs stocking up again......

Great job TJ, just need some heat in there now to keep you warm when you'r watching your TV you'll be installing...oh and a nice comfy reclining chair. You can get tuned in on the booze and fall asleep watching passion for angling :D.

I've just opened up the attic's on one side of the house and intend to use one room for storing my fishing gear...can't use the garage it's full of parrots  .

ha ha, that was my first thought.... ditch the veg, use that valuable space with some more beer...!

Great result though, nice one!

For heating in my workshop (saves things getting damp and spoiling I found a small electric fan heater with a thermostat control the best as the Calor gas heater I tried first chucked out loads of moisture.

An iron box (multifuel/woodburner) would be good, it draws out air and helps keeps everything dry. I have one in the house and it virtually stops any condensation on the windows during the winter...if I can be arsed to light it that is :). I've got another four open fires which do the same but I just never light the buggers up...got used to the central heating button .

A man after my own heart - if you are gonna build it then overbuild it. The framework for those panels is a thing of beauty for us overbuilders. :D :D

That said, it looks like a very useful space that was fun to re-do and it will probably be standing strong long after all of us are dead & buried.

Terra,

lovely! You would gasp at the mess in my walk-in basement. I'm a little dissapointed there aren't a few more cola selections. I'll let you know when I'm coming. I hate the taste of beer.
