Hunting dogs

Just been watching Crufts and all those Hounds and Terriers. All of them "BRED FOR HUNTING"

Some for rats, some for hares, some for badgers(?) and some for deer. I suppose the Bloodhounds are for hunting men?

My question is what will happen to these breeds when hunting with dogs is banned?

Will the owners still be able to call their dogs Hounds and Terriers?

I also wonder what percentage of these dog breeders would vote against Fox hunting with dogs bred for hunting fox's.

What will happen if one of my Terriers goes after a fox when we are out walking?

yes they still will be hunting dogs its just that they will be unemployed.most dogs have a hunting pedigree (except for the guard types ,even some of these were to attack wolves etc) even the humble daschund and yorkshire terrier.a point tho if a shooters gun dog looks for a shot bird is it hunting? ,where is the line drawn?????????

Hi Den/all,

it is funny that you mentioned this, I have been thinking about something similar. When (not if) a total ban on fox hunting is in force, what will happen to all the "out of work dogs"?

As these dogs are pack animals and used to a regular routine with lots of exercise I can't see them settling down with a normal family can you?

The owners will probably have to have them put down.

There is another alternative, the owners could start a registered charity, I am sure that all the pro hunting lobby will be happy to repay all the hard work done by the hounds with CASH and not just words.

I can only see one place for the horses, in mainland europe on a dinner plate.

A lot of people will be out of work I know, big deal, they will just have to find another job like so many others. We all survive, just.

their is no need to destroy any of the hounds, they can easily be used for drag hunting ,with a human doing the thinking instead of a fox it would be even more entertaining than the real thing.

The dogs you see at Crufts are nothing more than part of the fashion industry. Most of them aren't even proper family pets - they're bred purely for showing as a business.

One of my wifes relatives is a top breeder of 2 terrier breeds in America and sells dogs all over the world for thousands of dollars. However, having seen the way they're brought up and having seen the state of some of the ones that end up staying with the family (those that aren't quite 'perfect') I'd never buy from a breeder like that. The dogs get minimal human contact, very little attention (until it's time to sell them) and basically never get taught the basics that pets need to know (playing, house training, stairs etc etc). I always refer to them as pseudo-dogs - an animal pretending to be a dog!

We could give perverts and child molesters a free pardon if they volenteer for drag hunting(but treat them like the fox). :)

thats too easy ferret ,lets say they have to drag a sack with four other perverts inside for at least 10 miles with a 5 (no lets be fair )6 min start ,and the hounds are VERY hungry

So what does the Irish Water Spaniel hunt? The one with all the curls? Or maybe it was hound?

Looked like a big poodle to me.

It could be useful if you`d poured too much whiskey in your jar?

Paul.

Never buy a dog from a puppy farm!! Your local dog rescue will match you to an animal that will be your best friend. And will not suffer from inbred deficiencies!!

All these hounds will have to be put down and I hope that everyone that votes to ban hunting is made to be the one to look into their eyes & pull the trigger!!!

There are already too many dogs in the likes of Batersea dogs home looking for homes. The thousands of hounds that are in this country will have no option other than to be destroyed.

I think it would be totally unfair to expect the kennelman to have to do it. Strange as it may seem but they think as much of these dogs as you or I would think of our pet dogs, each has it's own character.

For all you anti's reading this, if you can shoot one of these hounds I am sure I can arrange it for you :(
