The rain was so heavy last night during a fierce storm that I thought it was going to break the windows! Loads of thunder and lightning too, together with very strong winds. The Thames this morning is in the fields in places and roaring through. Looks like flooding is a serious risk, which is very unusual at this time of year: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/may/01/f...n-south-britain

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Yes, the Thames was in the fields round Cricklade the other day.

Hopefully the fry refuge lagoon the EA built is having some benefit. Flooding is natural, though, I wonder if we over-estimate the impact on fry?

but I fear a lot of fry will be lost this year.

But not necessarily all bad mate! Its natural "disasters" like this (ie the loss of an entire year class) that can often help create later "bounty"years with lots of bigger than normal fish that have grown and thrived due to the lack of competition.

Tragic - however I know that ford well - and it would have been pretty obvious that it was impassable - gawd know what the driver was thinking! River was over 5 foot deep!
