That is, or was, the sadistic side of motherly love, everybody had to dress up for weddings and small scruffy boys were NOT going to be left out.

 

It was one of those humiliating experiences most of us had to suffer as youngsters.

Thank God it's a practice that is not continued today, or if it is it should be banned under the Geneva convention, on human rights.

It still happens! I take weddings where there are page boys dressed up like that, but they're always a lot younger, 3 or 4, and amazingly they don't seem to mind!

Not just mothers. Often it's the bride! It might seem inexplicable that anyone should want this, but there could be a simple if sinister explanation. Could it be there is a plot by women worldwide to emasculate the male sex early in life so we spend our time in soft pursuits rather than fishing? Female members of AN are, of course, beyond suspicion of direct involvement, but may have information.
