10-02 tench from Wingham

Recommended Posts

Just had a pic phoned through by a member of a very long tench of 10-02. It doesn't look as though it's got much if any spawn.

Roll on the weekend! Hopefully some more such specimens will come out on the Fish-In.

This is not helping me get any work done, Steve! :D

For those of us pacing the floor, I think you've said in the past that Wunderground is the best site for Wingham weather, but that there is a better location to use than Canterbury?

Bloody nuisance fish. Hope it didn't rob the carp of any food :D

For weather I use Wunderground, Accuweather & the Met Office. Locations are a mixture of Canterbury and Manston.

So, currently looks likely to be mild, overcast, some wind at times, probably not much rain? Should be decent fishing conditions, if not ideal for sitting out in the sun :)

A 10-02 tench, now that's got a familiar ring to it but I can't quite place it....oh hang on :D

I've been keeping an eye on the Canterbury weather too, heavy rain would put a whole new slant on the weekend for an inexperienced bivvy'er like me. How do you bivvy boys keep stuff dry when the heavens open? It must be a nightmare if you're in and out of it all the time.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Hi Rusty

In answer to your question yes it is a nightmare.

Most anglers who bivvy up are carp anglers and only generally get the occasional take but for bream tench men like me when things hot up and a shoal are on the feed middle of the night pouring rain and generally windy its fun.

I have on occasions pulled my rods in for self preservation.

My bivvy is a one man which has a small porch area that is seperate from an inner tent so wet stuff does not run into my sleeping area. I never enter my sleeping zone wet as there is no recovery from that.

If at all possible I also erect a seperate dayshelter. This contains most of my gear and seat etc. So if its wet I stay in there actively fishing and keep waterproofs in there also and not take them in my main bivvy. An old fashioned umbrella would do although I have long since given up fighting with them in the wind.

I prefer to use very lightweight plastic trousers and macs that will go over my proper warm clothes but not take much space and also hang out to dry easily.

If there is not room for shelter I have a plastic sheet that I cover bait etc with as maggots groundbait etc do not go well with water dumped on them.

I could tell you about a recent rip where it all went t*ts up but don't want to put you off.

However I have still never been in a situation that I wished I could just pack up and go home. Bream fishing stillwaters in particular is so much better in wet and windy weather. The low light and strong undertow gets them going.

Rusty, I always bring a few old newspapers and use one as a door mat as I go in and out if its muddy. Once a page is dirty or wet, I tear it out and bin it. News papers are also good for soaking/mopping up any water that does get in to your bivy. I have a porch area to my bivy and that ground sheet does get muddy in bad weather but a few old news papers cleans it up nicely and you can always use page 3 for other duties.

Stephen

I think a man should keep his duties to himself with page 3 Dale...
