Just got this reply from my ISP regarding an e-mail which ? contained a virus, in same post I got an e-mail from someone who called me a few names because he said I had sent him a virus. I didn't!! I don't even know the guy, but this may explain It??

IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED THIS AUTO-RESPONDER WITHOUT HAVING SENT AN EMAIL TO

THE NTL ABUSE TEAM IT IS A POSSIBILITY THAT YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM IS

INFECTED WITH A VIRUS THAT IS SENDING EMAIL WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. IF

THIS HAS OCCURED PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU SCAN YOUR SYSTEM FOR VIRUS

INFECTION IMMEDIATELY.

 

IF A SCAN OF YOUR SYSTEM DOES NOT REVEAL THE PRESENCE OF A VIRUS IT IS

POSSIBLE THAT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS STORED ON THE HARD DRIVE OF A

COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN INFECTED BY A VIRUS. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT

THE VIRUS IS USING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AS A REPLY-TO EMAIL ADDRESS WHEN

ATTEMPTING TO PROPAGATE ITSELF. THIS THEREFORE RESULTS IN THE FAILED

DELIVERY MESSAGES THAT ARE RETURNED TO YOUR MAILBOX. UNDER THESE

CIRCUMSTANCES PLEASE SEND US THE BOUNCED EMAIL AS WE WILL OFTEN BE ABLE

TO IDENTIFY THE INFECTED COMPUTER SYSTEM FROM THE INFORMATION CONTAINED

IN SUCH A BOUNCED EMAIL.

Well??? anything like this happened to you lateley??

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

Getting about 20 a day at the moment all from the same NTL email address.

 

Another story:

A few weeks ago my dad visited a link in an unknown email which took himto a site which disconnected his connection and redailed a premium rate number.

 

An extra £30 on his bill!

Most crap mail is down to your ISP.

 

AOL being the worst that I know of.

 

I am with Freeserve, and have received only 2 crap mails in the last year or so that I have been with them. ISP`s should if they are any good have mail filters on there mail servers.

 

Also remember to read your ISP`s TC's as some have it wriiten that they pass/sell on your information for advertising purposes.

One was for a porn site, and one was I assume a virus mail.

 

Always use the mail address supplied by your ISP, well except in the case of AOL that is.

Turn off the Outlook Express preview pane.

most of them seem to use outlook to activate ,i dont use it so if a virus turns up it seems confused and windows asks me where i want to "save" the file,nortons tells me the file is containing a virus ,i delete it :)

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

i never had them before till last week when someone added me to there msm friends list and now getting two a day i always delete them now.But i am worried that theres an vrus hidden away some where but my anti vir says my system is clean.I am using xp but cant seem to find my temp internet files any where any clues please as i want to scan them aswell by the way i am using AVG free edition antivir

The klez virus and it's variants turns off some anti-virus software if it has not been updated in time.

I was infected within 2 days of it being new.

You don't know you've got it until the AV programme behaves funny and you start getting complaints from people you have never heard of saying you sent them an Email with a virus attached.
