Picking up an old hobby

Used to play a lot of Games Workshop games, even had rules published in them I've written etc

That involved a lot of miniature painting. Not done it for years but found some superb models online and have started getting my hand and eye back in!

Thought I'd share my first couple of models:

1352928081904.jpg

Both are 74mm in height, painted with acrylics and mounted on wooden plinths.

Both are scale75 models from here:

Anyone else paint models etc?

I used to, back in the early '80s - mostly 25mm fantasy wargaming stuff. I've still got a load of figures (some unpainted) in a box up in the loft! Some of the metal miniatures from those days sell for a fair bit of money on eBay now, as it appears the cost of the metal has caused many of the manufacturers to switch to plastic.

And then put bulletholes in them with a hot pin? :D

Treason !

We only put bullet holes in the the Zeros, Mitsubishis, Junkers, Heinkels, Dorniers and Messerschmidts. Painted rows of "trophy" minature swastikas on the Spitfires and Hurricanes, just below the cockpits. One of our Dorniers had painted flames coming from the port engine.

My mate Eric and I had a collection of almost every Airfix scale 1/72 model plane at one time - all hanging down from his dad's garage ceiling on lengths of ICI Luron monofilament.

The next generation were not too interested in WWII planes - there is still an unassembled Sunderland flying boat up in the loft somewhere.

I just lined mine up on the garden wall and blew them to pieces with my airgun..along with several lego men, some action men and probably a few snails..the cruelty of children!

couple more of the Leonidas figure..the base has the famous quote that's been bastardised various times over the years; I chose the version from J Rufus Fears

"Stranger, go tell the Spartans

That we lie here

True, even to the death

To our Spartan way of life."

well....if it's not doing anything, I could line it up behind my DH82 Tiger Moth that I'm building (not free flight this one but full RC with scale ailerons!) from an old Keil Kraft/Mercury balsa 'n' tissue kit!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!
