Seems like a real bargain..........for the NT

That'll be equal opportunity to bankrupt yourself I'd say.

I suppose you have to be able to drive to get back to the lunatic asylum for your holidays

The last such job that I applied for (footpath warden, similar pay), had over 700 applicants. They wanted someone with an environmental science degree preferably.

If that job was in South Dorset, their phone wouldn't stop ringing. The largest employer in Weymouth pays £4.32 an hour for starters. About £5.30 an hour for a charge-hand!!

We laugh at the 'average earnings' figures that are touted about. I think the last I saw was over £400.00 a week!!

How about this one with Dorset County Council:

"IT SERVICES SECTION

TRAINEE SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

SALARY: FROM £11,100 DEPENDING ON AGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Love computers, the web and programming?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated developer to join a software development team producing systems using Oracle Web based technology. This is an ideal opportunity whether you are an established programmer or not, to get involved in this fast moving and interesting field.

Enthusiasm, understanding and aptitude are the most important things. Can you demonstrate, through employment, education or hobby that you have what it takes?

If you have worked with, or are aware of SQL or Java, it would be an advantage.

CLOSING DATE: 31 JULY 2002

INTERVIEW DATE: WEEK COMMENCING 12 AUGUST 2002

QUOTE REF: IT3075"

I had an interview for this one about 2 years ago, but they did not want anybody who was too bright (I was told afterwards), so they took on a girl who had been temping there as a typist.

None of the lads who had just got their B-Tech (Computing), got past the programming initiative test.

More like 'Jobs for the girls'.

Unfortunately, students have got a very good chance with Councils jobs and fair play to them!

Without wanting to cast aspersions on your 'sitting on your bum drinking tea' skills :)

, students have spent 3 years full-time perfecting this art!

Ok they usually use the cheaper option of beer rather than tea but the move-over isn't a major one....and most councils aren't bothered if they make the change

Some students are sooo dedicated they even fund research outside college hours on a case study (ie down the pub) then meet up with colleages to compare their experiences (ie at the students' bar) That's what makes me proud of being a student :P

Sooooo......Why not become a student?

Liam

ps Something I'm kinda looking atm,

is to set up a Ltd Co. as a non-profit making org for the voluntary sector.

You get to pay yourself what you think the going rate is for your skills. Hmmm :)

some of orgs in the voluntary sector have access to more funds than they know what to do with.
