Gut feeling

RUDD

Recommended Posts

At lunch time I bought a bag of dog mixers as I had a feeling the carp would be up in the water due to sunny days and a change of wind direction.

After dinner popped down to a local pool and found the wind had filled one corner full of scum, yesterday it was in another corner.

A handful of doggies soon saw Roach and a lone carp swirling.

A short thirty second walk back to the car and I re rigged the rod with eight pound line and a size eight super specialist.

Walked back to the swim and it was going mental.

There were fish everywhere.

Flicked in a bit of crust and bang, carp on.

Spent three hours feeding doggies and getting plagued by Roach ripping baits to pieces. Landed one of around a pound and finished with six carp to twelve pounds, lost a few and plenty of missed takes.

The bailiff came round and told me he had a Roach just over a pound out of the clear, deep reservoir where I have been fishing, I knew that it must hold some big Roach as all the other species seem to be.

Just need to decide whether to use a double rod feeder approach or waggler and sprayed maggot/caster.

Another pleasant short spring session, I feel spoilt this year with what I have caught and I am enjoying every minute on the bank.

RUDD,

The only thing left is what we call the "dog days of August". You're cashing all your chips in pretty early. Hope you don't have to pay the piper later in the season.

Just wondering? Have you ever tried the Aldi's dry cat food in the BLUE bag. It is one of only a few pet food pellets I know of that are sinking. (The gold bag floats) Over here you can even buy it is 3lb bags. It is fishmeal based with 20 - 25% protein (I forget).

Out of curiosity, being local in Grundisburgh and currently "between jobs" with extra spare time on my hands to fill, is it a day ticket or syndicate waters you fish ?

Where abouts is it ?

First fished it when I was a lad where I caught my first ever Crucians, Mirrors and Commons.

Fished there from age 14 to approx 22 years old.

Once I managed to join another club and due to the idiots who fished it on a day ticket for the big Carp, I am talking mass boilie baiting I avoided it like the plague for years.

Back in my early 20's when I did fish it I must of put my name on the waiting list.

Three years ago (17 years later) I received a knock on the door and was offered a membership @ 25 quid a year, being a village away and the fact that the Carp anglers were leaving the place alone it seemed an ideal quick visit venue, TBH I was more interested in the top runs water so I could fish match Carp tactics.

Two years ago most of the big Carp died in the bottom lake, they were approx 45 years old.

I knew from the Carp anglers decent Tench and double figure Bream were present along with Crucians, some carp hybrids and the occasion decent Eel, it was then that I started putting in some sessions and plenty of recce work in.

My results have been way above the few other members or day ticket anglers that fish it.

I can only put this down to the time I have spent learning the water, I am yet to target the Bream with the intention of bagging a few but have had the odd one or two. This year I have noticed the Roach topping late in the evening and judging by swirls and splashes figured there are some good sized ones in there.

I think the death of the Carp has eased pressure, stopped the boilie bombardment and allowed the other species to flourish.

Its a very small venue with two very different waters.

Top lake very small with loads of Roach up to 2lb (also neglected as most anglers are newbie carp anglers with one species on their mind), loads of small Carp up to 21lb, Crucians, cross Crucian's and a few Tench.

The official name is Goslings farm but most know the place as Trimley Carp lakes.

Days tickets 6.00 from Tackle Up - bridge road Felixstowe or Goslings farm (Strawberry place as you leave trimley st martin on the left). Non member night fishing every other Saturday, members every Saturday night only. Fishing dawn to dusk.

Top lake fished all day long but the bottom lake is best very early morning or in the evenings.

If you are going to give it a go send me a PM or Elton has my number.

It takes years to get a membership - dead mans shoes is the term used!

I know Ladywood (Nacton village) are taking new members at 65.00 a year 365 fishing 24 hours - there have been some fish deaths but anglers there last weekend were catching. I will be speaking to the manager later for an update.

Trimley will be closed from 19th May to 27th May for workparties etc.

Just spoken to the manager of Ladywood and it is fishing well - looks like a recovery is well on the way.
