Political Correctness

Here's a debate for some reflection.

Is "Political correctness" a necessary move to ensure that discriminatory attitudes are minimised and eventually banished to the past. Enabling our society to function with respect and tolerance for all of our citizens?

Or is it an infringement to free speech and the traditional use of the English language by faceless bureaucrats ?

Discuss.

I'll now stand back

Like everything else, common sense should prevail. If something is clearly derogatory and offensive then I see no problem with discouraging it and even stopping it if necessary. However if something is merely has historical reference, or is factual (e.g. 'the black gay man'), then we should be fully entitled to carry on.

when it gets to things like you cannot use words such as

blackboard (funny how most schools now have "whiteboards" and nobody says anything)

and how baa baa black sheep is seen as discriminatory,

and golly wogs etc etc

but rap artists, and not normal people, are allowed to use the word "nigger"

it makes you wonder who's side the PC lot are on

then PC has no place in society

PC to me is just another tool of repression conjured up to try to make you think ,that what you think is wrong .ie censorship.A way to make you see things their way for whatever reason.

its censorship of the worst ,should we call spades narrow digging shovels because the word spade COULD cause some sort of offence

should we be banned from mentioning the war incase it "offends" germans, japs, iti`s,french ,dutch, etc etc infact it may offend ALL Hitlers alies as the war happened then no amount of cencorship can deny the fact .

should we be inprisoned for bying 20 fags incase the word fag (more in america) offends gays  into thinking i want 20 homo`s to rent and should we be imprisoned for saying GAY incase it offends GAYS and implies their different from the norm and we need to use a particular word to discriminate them as being different to "straight" people.

its getting out of hand when almost anything you say in normal conversation can get you in trouble ,i can see the time when you could be infront of the beak for speaking because it offended someone who couldnt

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong
