weather havoc in Holland

Hi all,

just thought I would let you know what it is like here, weather wise.

It is blowing a hooligan, force 11 gusting to huricane.

Amsterdam central station roof fell in, thank God they could see it coming so no one hurt. Few trains running.

Schipol airport almost closed, few flights going out.

Flood defences in full operation.

Loads of roads closed due to fallen trees, 1 dead so far and several wounded by fallen trees.

Mordijk bridge down to 2 lanes (normal 6) as the water is coming over the top whipped up by the wind, keep in mind that the bridge is about 300 ft above the water.

It must be serious, I went to the pub, had 1 drink and thought it was a bit dodgy stagering back so went home. On the way home I crossed over the road where there are no trees and watched a tree split wide open in front of me.

A mate over the road was parked 3 bays away from a tree, I went over and advised him to move his car, half an hour after he moved it a great big branch landed where his car had been parked.

Todays boat trip cas canceled. :D

Be safe

Six dead in the UK, in separate incidents, including three children :(

A few trees down in my area.

One angler in the water near rocks in Aberdeenshire, pulled out after 40 minutes thanks to wearing a flotation suit and being spotted by the public.

Was he sensible wearing a suit, or did that give him the confidence to stupidly go out in such conditions?

Fairly windy here in East Sussex - no news as no television working - assume the transmitter has blown over.

The tele receiver is working OK as I tried its videolink with a grandson's video - after all I've taught him about making his own gear, I found his video featured Matt Hayes showing how to catch carp with several hundred poundsworth of Fox tackle

Any news of conditions in the SE?

Looks like you need to hang onto your hat Alan - hope you survive without loss or damage.

Here in east Kent we've only just got back online. This is due to the phones being out of action much of the day, presumably because of the storm. Thank godness for mobiles!

Here in Berkshire I've had the top 15 feet knocked off a tree in my garden and the tree has split where the trunk divides into two - one half right across the hedge and into the neighbours garden

:(

Sorry about your tree David, it could have been worse. Did you know that your neibour can cut up the tree but has to return the wood to you?

If a branch is hanging over a neibours property he can cut the branch off but must return the branch to you.

Funny world.

Still no power at home after 26 hours.

Had a lucky escaped - large roof tile flew off my neighbour's house and landed about 6 feet away from me. I'd have been dead if that had hit my head!

Few trees down in Suffolk.
