depends on what you mean by "make it in the angling world". If you looking for fame and fortune I've no idea.

 

If you want to become a good angler then several simple things.

 

First, ignore commercial waters, they teach you very little. Second carp don't teach you a great deal

 

Spend as much time as you can at the waterside. Watch fish, learn how they behave, how external factors impact on their behaviour. Feed them watch their reactions.

 

But most people these days seem to equate making it with big carp, big money, and fame, for that, I haven't a clue.

Are you aiming to be: a good match angler? a good big fish angler? a successful angling writer? make a living from angling? Once you've decided then ask yourself have you really got what it takes to accomplish that. If not then relax and enjoy what you do.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Like "making it" in any walk of life

 

1. By natural talent (very rare)

2. By hard practice, in improving what little talent you have (fairly rare)

3. By self deception (common)

4.......or you could settle for fishing for enjoyment rather than fame - as I have quoted before "happy is the angler who fishes to please himself and not to astonish others"

My bias is an open secret :-)

 

Carp are good at teaching about carp, not necessarily about being a good all round angler. If the OP wants to succeed in carp fishing then that line would have been omitted.

 

For what it's worth I believe that the explosion of carp stocking has been both the best and worst thing for general angling ability in the UK in my life time. Best because it has excited the general public and got some people into angling that might otherwise not have done so. Worst because it has set expectations way too high in terms of the size of fish that a novice should be catching, and detracting from the important "water craft" element of catching fish in general. It has led to the over stocking of natural waters with a fish that does not belong there to the detriment of native fish stocks.

 

There is nothing wrong with carp per se but the snobbery of some carp fishing enthusiasts in the UK is almost as bad as that pertaining to salmon fishing in the UK.
