making it in angling

Catch an endless list of monster fish.

Dales if I didn't know you better I would say that was boasting what with that huge list of fish caught following every post of yours.

Still you are famous here whereas I am more infamous. :spiteful:

You need the following attributes:

1. A very good and likeable personality.

2. To be very very good at your choosen type of angling be it specimen, sea, carp, match, game or an all rounder and I mean top of your game at all times on the bank.

3. To be able to write with creativity and style and to be able to present yourself on camera.

4. To be a very good sales and business person. You need to be able to sell your soul as well as your sponsers kit.

5. To have total commitment to your choosen path. That deadline is approaching fast!

6. Sacrifice as you will spend more time away from the bank and your family/friends than you think. Trade shows, tackle design, writing, filming etc will all eat up your time.

7. You will need some qualifications such as a degree in journalism and coaching badges.

You will at some point have to coach or act as a guide/gilley.

I think you will find that most who have made it have had to work very hard at it and have more than one job or run their own companies to fund themselves.

Goodluck.

John, if I had caught a long list of big fish I would hope I would not still be paying for my bait. As it is I still have to mix with the hoi polloi at the local tackle shop :)

I think "success" in the way I am assuming the question was intended gaining, fame, sponsorship, TV and magazine work etc is gained by producing the goods and banking big fish. Catch enough big ones and with the right self promotion you have a chance of making it as an "angling celeb" and some or all of the trappings of success may follow.

Catch Jack and no tackle firm would touch you with a barge pole. Not wanting to rain on adsanglings potential ambition but the fact he asked the question kinda means the chances are he does not have it in him to be a success in the way most us have interpreted his question.

Stephen

You have all assumed by 'making' it in the world of Angling he is seeking a financial gain, that is why I asked the question 'what does he want achieve?

Of course it could be the more innocent success without the fame

He is yet to reply.

I know Mick Brown was at a pairs competition and he had no boat buddy, and the only person who was without one as well was Matt Hayes and Matt asked him if he wants to be on his TV show as they were fishing together.

So a bit of luck will not go amiss. :D

Very interesting.

A bit off topic but what are the A's with the arrows above them?

Some form of file corruption I would have thought.
