Repelling horseflies,mozzies ect.

I have three bites on my leg which i got while fishing on monday and they itch like hell. one of them is swollen and the red lump is about 2 inches long.There were hundreds of the little blighters!

 

Is there a spray/cream anyone could recommend that would repel them from me and when will they start to die off?

A mixture of sugar and water will work a treat.












Only joking, any insect repellant with deet in works well, don't be fooled into thinking you have to buy the most expensive for it to work I use (when I remember to) a roll on one from poundland (the bottle is green) and it works very well.

Autan or jungle formula work ok but none are 100% not sure about horse flies though they make you jump

I could feel them biting me and I brushed them off me but three must have got lucky

They were all over my landing net and as I picked it up to land a fish they all flu in my face, not very pleasant.

superdrugs own brand repellent is very good; so is burning a couple of joss sticks in your swim!

you wont repel horse flies as easily but a good repellent kept fresh will do the job; the trick is to keep topping up on it throughout the session...don't spray it near the water or near your bait though.

if you don't fancy too many chemicals then grab yourself a bottle of lemon oil spray and use that...citrus is a great natural repellent; also garlic juice mixed with water (1part to 5) and sprayed is a great solution.

gnats etc are attracted to the co2 you breath out...and some say fresher breath helps with that..so chewing gum can help it is said.

Garlic! Blimey you will have crowds of blooming iti's and foodies invading your swim and their worse!

I effing hate horseflies. They give me the creeps. At least they are slow and clumsy, though, so you can often kill them before they bite you.

Lets see if this works. It is the Consumer Reports rating. Consumer Reports is very reliable.

 

 

I can still buy 100% deet but it is quite dangerous in that it is easy to use to much.

DEET could also be known as "plastic be gone" - be careful where you spray that stuff, it dissolves a lot of synthetic materials. Works, though. The generic Boots stuff has been fine for me;
