is it worth filling my spinning reel spool with braid , Its new to me , I have always been a nylon man, Is braid really better ?

I do a lot of mepp fishing , So would braid be best for me ,

I know it has less stretch so would it be suitable for use with spinning lures ?

thanks in advance for any replies..........

Gel spun Polyethylene lines are hugely superior to nylon in most lure fishing situations.

It casts further. It is stronger for a given diameter. It's lack of stretch means that you can feel hits and set the hooks far more easily. If you need to fish deep, the low diameter cuts through the water more easily.

About the only situation where I don't use Gel Spun lines in over oyster covered rocks in saltwater.

Most gel spun Polyethylene lines are braided and while it's not a problem with heavier gear, I find that there are handling issues with the fine braids when used for fishing small lures (including spinners) that simply go away when you use fused dymena lines like Berkley Fireline. 10lb Fireline is my line of choice for my light lur fishing in the UK.

Lack of stretch also means that if you hang up in a tree and have to pull, you don't get a lure coming back at you like a bullet.

I use braid for all lure fishing , more sensitive to the angler as you can feel the action of the lure and any fish interested knocking into it , you also know when you have a take a the 0% stretch indicates straight away creating faster hook connection to the fish

all,

Well, it's at the bottom. I don't know how to view it or put it into the post.

Edit: Ohh, that's cool !! I did something and you can view it. We use much heavier line than you do but you can see the "lure/line" combinations.

I'm not saying they are right for you - I'm just saying this is a "carry-on" chart that all the pros use in tournaments. Bare in mind they will have 8 - 10 rods all spooled up and can change tactics in a heart beat.
