Just finished Bill bryson notes from a small island and will read my just bought signed edition of Casting at the sun next.

Two of my favourite authors too! :) Bill Bryson's books are always interesting, and of course very funny too. Chris Yates to me is the top descriptive angling writer of all time.

Adults reading Harry Potter books - Scary :D

A good well written story is still a good well written story whether it's aimed at kids or adults. Have you read any of Terry Pratchets books that are aimed at kids? They're still extremely good for adults.

I couldn't agree more. BB, he of "Confessions of a Carp Fisher" fame amongst others, also wrote many charming children's books. For instance I'm sure we'd all enjoy "The Monster Fish" (called "The Whopper" in the US edition). Anyone read it?

I still very much enjoy Arthur Ransome's "Swallows & Amazon's" series of books, which were of course aimed at children. By the way, there's several mentions of fishing in them. I think it was in "Coot Club" that the monster pike was landed whilst watching someone else's tackle. Anyone remember?

Of course Arthur Ransome also wrote fishing books, including of course the famous "Rod & Line". This was a collection of his best articles from his fishing column in the Manchester Guardian. Chris Plumb has kindly reviewed it for me on my website - see the link below.

It's science fiction Steve; it does have a sort of fantasy feel to it however(probably because it involves a lot of travelling, like so many fantasy novels),although there is no magic involved.
