I hooked a cormorant many years ago, and found I could easily get my fist down its throat.

Den

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

A cormorant tackling a large flounder kept once me entertained for quite a while.

The flounder seemed to be stuck halfway down its throat and flapping desperately.

I couldn't imagine how it could get such a large flatfish down and thought that the cormorant had paid the price of being just too greedy.

But after some 10 or 15 minutes of flapping and wriggling it finally went down.

The fish they're eating look much bigger than they are. Blimey, how big do people think a cormorant is ! I've had hold of a few and they arn't big creatures so even a fish of half a pound will look magnified in size when the bird has hold of it.

Den, I reckon another forum member (co's i'm not doin it) could get their fist down your throat pretty easy if they pressed hard enough LOL.

No one ever mentions the shag, very similar to the cormorant, both eat fish, yet the population of the shag is 3 times as healthy as the cormorant. That's because the Southern Sea Fisheries Committee no longer issue Shag permits. There used to be a 7/6d bounty on every pair of Shag feet.
